Low hcg and a scan with a yolk sak and no heart beat. Do you have another scan booked in a few weeks. I know the chances are small but ask for another scan to confirm in a few weeks before a D & C etc. My dates and scan did not match and no-one can explain it. All I know is I have a very real 8 year old who has a letter detailing miscarriage at 6 weeks. Like I said earlier I don't want to give false hope but it is always a good idea to be extra sure. IYGWIM.

Hugs to you and your partner. It is such a tough thing to go thru and I wish you all the best for the future.

It showed that we have a sac and a yolk but the baby hadnt grown very much either . So the doctor wants us to wait and see if we miscarriage naturally over the next couple of weeks as he would rather not put me through another D & C at the moment if he doesnt have to.

They are also gonna do another laproscopy in a few months for my endometriosis and they are gonna check out the inside of my uterus too. Then we will go and do the IVF with PGD again as we qualify for one more public funded cycle. So by the time we get down that track it will be next year. So fingers crossed for the next time i guess.

big hugs to all the lovely ladies i have met through this thread. you have been the most wonderful help and support through this. i will probably join the cycle 2 thread over the coming months and wish all of you ladies all the best.

My understanding was that you can choose from a specialist, a private midwife or the hospital midwife. My GP recommended a private midwife who she thought i would get on with - cos lets face it you have to feel comfortable

If you choose a specialist you have to pay, but the private midwife and hospital midwife options are free. You normally do the first midwife visit at about 10 - 12 weeks and until then FA looks after you. I called my midwife at about 9 weeks and made an appoinment for the 11 week mark.

FA might have some recommendations or you could ask your friends or your GP for the names of midwifes that are good.

I have read in the news that midwifes get booked up pretty quickly so its a great idea that you have had to try and find one now.

All the best and best wishes everyone

The nurses and prep/info before were great. But the last week felt quite rushed. The dr that did my first scan I hadn't met before and was not very informative. He didn't explain what he had seen in the scan beyond that there was 4 follicles and as he left me waiting for the nurse to get the trigger (which I had read you get on your first scan) said, we will see you on Monday. I asked if that was for another scan and he replied no for the pick up. I was a bit surprised as I was expecting at least 1 more scan. The nurse just reassured me that we would get instructions that evening. I think the Drs seem to forget that they may do this stuff all the time but we (the patents) don’t know what is going on, especially those on first cycles.
I also had a mix up at embryo transfer where they nearly took another patent into the theatre that they thought was me. I am not sure how far they got could have just been first interview room but still was a worry but they did do a double check on my ID (birth date / full name etc) before finally doing my transfer. By which time my bladder felt like it was busting.
Hard to explain the whole HCG level thing but basically they expect it to double approx every 48 hrs. On your first test any HCG level over 25 usually confirms some form of pregnancy is present but anything around 100 is better! But generally as long as it is doubling this is a good sign! They should be able to tell you straight away whether you are pregnant or not and you normally do have to have multiple blood tests as this is the only way they can monitor the pregnancy in the early stages. When your levels get between 1500 and 2000 they will normally do a scan because they should be able to see something by then.
With me, the HCG is still rising but not as high or as fast as it should be which could mean that the pregnancy was there but is not there anymore or something has gone wrong or it could mean that it is just rising slowly and the pregnancy is fine!!
I hope this clears some things up for you
Apparently progesterone can also make your boobs really sore and make you really tired.
Fingers crossed for you karychick!!

The waiting is so tough aye. It's then that your mind plays all the tricks on you...

AmyRay - you could have a BFP still - 95 sounds hopeful from what I've heard. It's a bit confusing to me all the business about the HCG levels fluctuating and being different according to chemical or natural pregnancies???? Not sure I really understand it but I appreciate a wee bit of a heads up as I'm waiting to do a preg blood test next monday (last friday did a blood to confirm ovulation after IUI, and was all good).

Fingers crossed, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't actually expect a straight 'yes you're preg", or "No you're not"??? What do you all think? Is it usual to have to do multiple blood tests to confirm pregnancy?
Also, I've had REALLY sore boobs over the last 5 or so days. Does this mean anything? I'm desperately trying not to read anything into it but it's a rollercoaster ride in my mind as I try to keep my expectations low.... But also stay positive

That's very exciting! I hope that all (or at least some) fertilise for you.

I have just a phone call from the nurses in regards to the blood test i had this morning. My HCG levels have risen from 35 to 95 but this is not as high as they would have hoped so i have to have yet another blood test on Friday. This is really starting to take a mental toll. I feel so frustrated They have said that i could have a chemical pregnancy which is why my levels are rising so slowly or it could be a normal pregnancy where my levels are just rising slowly. I wish they could just tell me something good. I have pretty much come to the conclusion in my head that its not going to be good news on Friday but I am trying to stay positive for my DH and myself. Fingers crossed for Friday i guess.

kiwi2 - thanks for your explanation of the slow rising HCG levels. I hope that you are right and that things are just off to a slow start. I try not to stress out about it but after todays result it is a little disheartening.

Tulips - i am so sorry to hear that you were BFN. I truly understand how you must be feeling.

Lollypop - dont worry about having to "coast". I had to do this too for about 7 days before my levels came back down! They then did EC as per normal.

Gizmog - YAY for you! I am so glad to hear that you are finally onto the next stage! All the best with the Puregon and the next stages to come.

Poppi - glad to hear your follicles have come off strike!!! 2 is better than none at all!!

I just wanted to say again a big thank you to all you ladies for your continued support. It's hard to just pick yourself up again and move on and there's always that dreaded thought of what if it never happens. I like that quote though, and I've been told by several people to view the first cycle as a test case. I've been seeing a practitioner of chinese medicine for over a year (Katrina Gascoyne in Mana) who's very experienced in the fertility field. But apart from the acupuncture (which is good for de-stressing) and the herbs, its been good to have someone knowledgeable to discuss the process with. So the natural fertility is a good idea, and you take back a bit of control over your own body. When do you think you'll start again? I read that it's good to detox a bit first to get the drugs out of your system, after you've had a few glasses of wine first of course!

I'm freaking out a bit too as the clinic called this afternoon and said my oestadiol level was too high at over 18,000 so now I have to 'coast' whatever that means. So I'm not sure yet if or when they'll do the pick up but am feeling a bit fed up and very bloated.

Avkiwi3 - I wouldn't worry about the 4 follicles, as its the quality that matters. The Dr told me that they need 3 to be 18mm before pick up, so you must be there. For instance, after my second scan on Saturday out of 16 only 1 was 18mm and the smallest was 10. Guess its too late to call the clinic now about the trigger but you could leave them a message to call you back asap tomorrow? Good luck tomorrow

Got AF before BT result. The sadness is pretty overwhelming. I've started reading a good book 'IVF & ever after'. It is about the impact the treatment has and how to manage the stress it causes. I was reminded that typically IVF treatment is not a one-cycle process. But it is that horrible doubt of whether I will ever have a baby. I like the quote 'Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently'. I had already decided to go to a Natural Fertility clinic before the second round.
I do wish everyone on here the best of luck!

So started on Puregon yesterday and have a scan on Thursday.

Dr said I may have a higher risk of developing OHSS so need to keep an eye on things and that they may need to freeze my eggs once they have been collected and wait awhile for ET. I hope this isn't the case but I guess they want to make sure if I do get OHSS then its all gone before doing ET as apparently you can get quite sick from it especially if there is a pregnancy involved.

AmyRay - all the best for Monday.

Poppi - hope your follicles come back off strike and that your back on track with things soon.

Lollypop - also hope your scan went well.

All the best for everyone else.

My opinion is due to the early testing with ivf that the hcg just hasn't had a chance to accumulate in your system yet so try not to stress. Some people just don't seem to have high levels straight away which is why some people have to wait longer for a hpt to react to the hcg etc.

Hope this helps and good luck for monday.

Also congrats you have got thru the first of many hurdles in your pregnancy. My progesterone was 98 so that's apparently good. I have to have another blood test on Monday and hopefully the HCG levels would have risen. If they drop then the pregnancy will be lost.

If there is anyone out there that can expand on what this all means that would be great!! Cells from each were sent to Melbourne for chromosome testing and out of the 11 only 3 came back with the right number of chromosomes. So i had embryo transfer last Tuesday which went well. They only implanted the best embryo and left the other 2 to continue growing in the lab so they could be frozen. Sadly they didnt develop enough to freeze so we only have the one embryo that has been implanted.

We find out this thursday if the embryo has stuck or not so fingers crossed for us ladies Its a very nervous wait. Im back at work today - using work as a bit of a distraction. People keep asking me if i feel pregnant? I dont think i do??

Best of luck tulips and naki_chick with your results. Some postive news on this thread would be great!!!

One was not mature and only 2 fertilised through ICSI. Tomorrow we drive to Hamilton for the transfer. Very excited.

Thanks again for your support. I tried to explain to my two sister in'laws what the experience was like but they really don't appreciate the emotions that go with it. They kept saying "wait till you give birth, now that's painfull". Not helpful at all. My husband said to me later he was about to slap them but helpfully changed the subject to his fainting episode.

Poppi - last year I had 4 cycles of IUI unfortunately all were unsuccesful. There is another girl I met through the clinic, she got pregnant on the first IUI but sadly miscarried. However she is pregnant now I think on her third cycle and has just hit the 12 week mark. She is stoked and thankful she didn't have to have conventional IVF with the egg collection.

Good luck everyone!
Not too many side effects accept for grumpiness

Lollypop - Im on the microdose flare one and are going to FA in Hamilton maybe they put all us old girls on that one

naki_chick - all the best

Ive been reading this book by Robert Winston (famous english guy from television) called A child against all odds and the way explains things is really good.

kary chick - In the above book he says that IUI it can be used for infertility that has a dual cause i.e. both the man and the women have challenges. He doesnt say anything about the success rates but talks about success rates improving if a split ejaculate method is used which means that they just use the first bit.

Well good luck everyone

Dont really know much about it at all except I trigger tonight and then we go in and do our thing on sunday morning....

Anyone done this before? Any advice or handy info about success rates, what to expect etc?

Yesterday we had egg pick up and we have 5 eggs.

I pretty much cried the whole 20 minutes. My first sedation pill had pretty much worn off by the time I got into thearte as I think something went wrong with the lady before me. My poor husband fainted mid way through. However I am feeling much better today.

We are waiting for the lab to confirm if all or how many eggs have been fertilised. They were going to do ICSI if it wasn't going to plan. We are using donor sperm so fingers crossed they are doing their job.

It sounds like most of you are coming up to the same stage as me. I wish you all the best!

I have a blood test Wednesday morning to see if I have down regulated and can start the Puregon injections. I have lost both fallopian tubes to ectopics but in-between those I conceived naturally and have a 5 year old. So all in all out chances are considered fairly good as I am only 32 don't have endo or pcos and have carried with no problems before. But I guess we will wait and see.
