I think I probably ended up in just a t shirt by the time things were really happening. Before then I was in pjs at home.

I agree with those who say what you take for after labour is more important - something comfy would be my main choice for next time. And I don't remember there being that much blood so nothing got ruined (and we had a home birth so I would remember suddenly having a whole pile of ruined towels!!).

Then i changed into the hospital gown when we moved to the labour ward. Afterwards and after id showered i put on my normal (well, as normal as maternity clothes can be!) clothes. While i was at the hospital I showered and dressed every morning. I would have loved to have stayed in pjs all day but I felt better in day clothes. In saying that, if i'd had a c-section I probably wouldve stayed in my pjs!

I think I may have even posted a thread much like this one while I played the waiting game.

When I was still at home I had a few showers and changed clothes, each time just opting for something comfortable. Ended up wearing a pair of light 3/4 pants & a slightly longer short sleeved top to birthcare. (My theory was that if I was feeling exposed then at least the top was longer so I felt like it covered more, lol.)

In the end I spent most of the final stages of labour in the pool - and christened the maternity tankini that I'd never worn. The good thing about that is that our first pics of me & Bethany are decent cuz I was still wearing the top part of the tankini. That soon went when she started BFing tho

And the hospital gowns were great for afterwards - I was just so hot all the time and they gave me air flow unlike my own pjs when I tried them on.

PS one of the best things I had for afterwards was disposable briefs (from maternity direct online). Meant I didn't even need to think about washing the granny knickers at first cuz these ones went straight in the bin

Edited by kmarie

Anything you have is going to be ruined and I seriously doubt we are going to care what we look like at the time lol.

I went and got some light cotton button up PJ's from Kmart ($19.95) to wear afterwards. Cheap but comfy. Didn't get the expensive ones as they still might get blood on them and I can just throw them out after. I bought the cheap nana undies from the warehouse ( black cotton) too. All the ladies have told me not to spend money as a good chunk of it will get thrown away. I've spent all up less than $100 on three pairs of PJ's for hospital and about 12 pairs of undies (usually a G string person).
