OK - finally happy with base/capsule system.

We took all the advice - pulled it really tight, DH put all his weight on it, used towels underneath, made sure the ratchet-style-seatbelt clicked back in, used a safety clip on the seatbelt and took it to Plunket to check last night.

Yeah you just need to put your weight on it, use towels and pull really tight. Even then it may seem to move a bit, but it won't, trust me. DH yanked ours about and no way could the carseat release, tip over or anything in the event of a crash. we have a milano capsule and base and it fits fine its having to have my knees touching the dash because the seat is so far forward,
Do you have really deep seats? We rented our capsule and base from the Baby on the Move people in Hamilton after they talked to our antenatal group. She said that even if no one hired from her she would be happy to sort their capsule/base/babyseat for them for free anyway (cos they might be potential customers down the track I imagine). I forgot to say earlier that when Plunket fitted ours the lady climbed into the car and put all her weight on it and pulled it REALLY tight. We tried the towel thing - it didn't seem to work. We went back to the shop to ask them how to do it - the came out to the car - but they couldn't get it to sit totally securely either.

We're now going to go to Plunket and see what they can do - if that doesn't stump up a solution the base is going back.

Gutted - I really wanted the base system. So much easier. This is good to know - we bought the base on Saturday and tried fitting it yesterday and we're having the same problem.

We've got a milano capsule and base. We just used towels on the seat (underneath the base) to prop it up and help it stay secure. The capsule has a level thing on the side to help you check that it's at the right angle. It also helps to kneel on the base so you can pull the seatbelt really tight.

I don't have a milano, but have got a baby trend base and capsule (similar sort of set up I guess) and ours was a bit like that because the back seats in our car have quite a dip in them. The instruction manual said it was fine to use towels to prop up the base if that happens, which is what we did and it made it more secure. Does yours have an angle meter on it? Ours did, so then we knew whether the base and capsule were fitted at the correct angle, using the towels. Does anyone use the base which you secure into your car and then just clip the capsule into the base? Ie you seat belt the base in rather than seat belting the capsule each time.

We have brought one and it doesn't seem that secure. I wonder if we are doing something wrong. It seems it would fit better if we were to put something underneath the rear of it to raise it but I am concerned that this isn't how it is made to be used.

Any suggestions would be great.
