I don't know if you guys know this idea, but if they bite their lip or tongue you can give a teaspoon of sugar as the crystals in it help clot the blood and stop the bleed. It works really well and the taste usually calms them down.

I would never tell Immi to shut up. Usually if I am angry with her I will ignore her. I had really bad temper tantrums as a kid, so when I see her I think of me and what I would do differently to what my mum did. don't get me wrong, my mum is fantastic, she is just a bit soft and gave in constantly to me in this area. I am trying to be a bit harder, but fair. When she calms down ( I use this method at work too with the kids) she gets a hug so she knows I love her, I tell her this. I always go under the title of its not the child its the behaviour ( I did a research paper on this when I did my diploma).

The biggest thing that annoys me as a teacher though is that if a child got badly hurt like that at our daycare the parents would be angry at us for it. We always try and avoid accidents of course, but then know if it happened at home we would be sympathetic to the parents feelings.

I had debated with myself but he was so happy and calm sitting on the chair. I'd looked up my book and was literally running to pick out my book from the shelf right by him when he fell off. Seriously! As least I didn't just leave him there, finally meander over and slap his bottom yelling at him to "Be Quiet!".

I remember going to the grocery store and in the parking lot there was a cute little girl sitting in the cart and I was smiling at her. She started to whine a little bit and her mom yelled "Shut up!" Ugh.....I try to remember that every time I have a bad day where I just want to yell at him.

Poor chick.

Agree with the hoping Ashley and Fiona made it through the night okay. I can't remember all the questions, but there was something about bottles, we have recently taken G down to 1 a day at bedtime, sometimes if she really needs one she will have one during the day time but that is maybe a once in a few weeks thing.

G eats about 1 weetbix or cereal/porridge for breakfast and she kinda snacks during the day, rice crackers and dried fruit (cos of her dislike for fresh fruit..), lunch time she might have a marmite or peanut butter sandwich and yoghurt, usually afternoon tea - more crackers or a milkies bar, something like that, when I pick her up from preschool at 4.15ish she has a baby mum mum rice bar in the car on the way home and then dinner at around 5/5.30 which to be honest more often than not is Little Kids or Only Organic 12 month + food, I am trying to work in more of our food, but I am quite slack at it....she ate pizza the other night.....well the base....

I don't know if it helps Fiona but at the beginning of the week I think G had an ear infection (thankfully fixed itself) and to put her to bed DH actually figured out if you stood next to her and just stroked her chest and or forehead it soothed her almost to sleep and then he would leave. She is better now so we no longer have to do it, but I wonder if it is worth a shot for you? But don't make that a new habit!

I hope Ash settled for ya, and you got some sleep xx

I had to go off to the Dr's yesterday, I just started bleeding randomly, with a few clots but had major sharp tummy pains. The Dr thinks I have had an ovarian cyst that has burst or is on its way out. So, I just have to take it easy and go back in a week for an ultrasound to see whats going on. He didn't seem overly worried about the bleeding, which I thought was strange, but I guess it could be my body having a bit of a clean out.

She has had everything she possibly can. By the fact that she is happy when you take her out of her room just shows that she is probably perfectly fine, otherwise her screaming and distress would continue. Give her a nice big cuddle, a drink of water and put her to bed. She will eventually fall asleep. I know you don't like hearing her cry, nobody likes hearing their little one cry out.. but sometimes this may be the only way. Does she have a stuffed toy that she is attached to? Does she still dislike the dummy? You sound totally exhausted mentally and physically.. is there a sleep clinic yourself and Ashley can check into?

I know in Australia they have sleep clinics where baby/child check into with a parent and they work out why the child is having issues with sleep and teach you how to handle the situation and teach the child how to self soothe a little better and there for have a better bed time.

I read one book (grain of salt) where they suggest starting time out around a year. I've been doing it with Ryan for awhile and he doesn't "really" get it, but all things take time I suppose. I pick my battles though and only time out when I really dislike what he's doing.

Fiona - I suppose I should also mention we are staying at a holiday house for the majority of the time and it does have a cot but my brother is coming with their 2.5 year old and 9 month old so are giving up the cot for the 9 month old.

He does try to climb into it (though hasn't managed it yet). I'm not even thinking big bed till I really have to.

B, I have tried time out a couple of times. I don't put him in his room because he LOVES it in there, but there is an area of hallway with absolutely nothing in it to look at or enjoy, so a couple of times I have sat him there. At the moment he really doesn't get it, but I figure in time he will start to and it will begin to work. If nothing else it 'interrupts' whatever he is doing that I want stopped (ie yanking the cat's ears or whacking me on the head with a plastic shovel

OK, shall I set up a FB group and we can suck it and see?

So cheeky.. we are setting up her big girls bed in the next few weeks. She will still have her cot in her room so its more to get her used to the sight of it, let her nap etc on it if she wants.. take it nice and slow and go along with what she wants.

She is a pretty good eater, loves her fruit and meat!

Do you guys do time out at all? I'm pretty sure Evie has hit the terrible two's already! sometimes she will just be so rough with the cat and we tell her sternly no so many times, remove her from the situation, remove the cat.. other times she will get rough with us and just wont give it up. We have started to put her in "time out" which is 1 min in her bedroom with the door closed. Is that a good or a bad thing? No idea..

Her vocab is pretty good and she follows directions well. She has just started saying "Who is it?" and "where is it?" but they sound like one big word hehe "whoizit?" haha

I really don't know what to say, but agree that probably cutting down the milk intake is the best to start with.

Sene has 1 - 2 bottles in the morning and a bottle before bed. Sometimes another if she is unsettled. She would normally only have 1 bottle in the morning but since moving here she has decided that 5am its time to wake up, and the only way to get her back down most mornings is with a bottle and she'll go to 6.30/7.

Well we had one failed attempt at the big girls bed, but a successful attempt last night!!! 7pm - 5am (and bottle and mummy cuddles until 6.45).

Sene is okay with her eating, eats a lot of what we eat. Loves her mexican nachos and stuff, yuuum! we are having mexican for tea tonight. She loves cheese also.

Vocab is really good: we get, mum, daddy, nana, cheese, ta, bath, why, gone, ball, juice, shoes. Of course not all the time but when she feels like it!!!

I don't come on here much anymore, more often on FB - so maybe we should look into that FB group?? Just because its quicker and easier to go on there. I duno. Up to others as well.

Oh well nappy change, got to show nana how the modern world works with these cloth nappies!

I would prefer to wait but we are somewhat going to push things along as we will be going to Hawaii in June of this year and Ryan will be expected to be sleeping in a bed in the various hotels along the way so I would really love to think that he'll have the hang of it by then. I'm actually a bit surprised that he hasn't tried to climb out of his cot as he's such a climber everywhere else.

Went to the library today and I was keeping an eye on Ryan as I dashed off here and there to pick out my books. Leave him on the blue hand chair (chair that looks like a hand) for 10 seconds only to hear a huge THUMP...pause...SCREEEEEAAAAAMMMMM. I've no idea what he did (well fell off obviously....) but I felt so mortified tried to calm this squealing baby in what is supposed to be the very quiet library. Thank goodness for it being a small town library. No one seemed to care.

I laugh because as you know I am raising The Hulk and watched him plow through 4 shrimp, 4 slices of deli ham, 1 piece of sushi, a handful of blueberries and a whole pikelet last night.

And, ahhhh, the big boy bed. Ryan so desparately wants to go into it but inevitably you hear the pitter patter of little feet after about 2 minutes. We are basically putting him in there for his nap and seeing how it goes. Eventually I put him in the cot. Only because he is so keen on it, not cause I"m in a hurry!

Oh, and Ryan is OBSESSED with the toilet. He just learned the sign for it and off we go to have a look, sit on it and flush it, then go wash our hands. I would love to think this actually means something but it's all a bit of fun at the moment. But hopefully it just means he has learned all the bits and now just needs to learn what to do with it LOL!

I don't have any real advice other to say I hope you get things sorted soon... I'd be tempted to check with the doc, again, to see if they can spot anything. Could it be ears? I know Alex's hurt when he lay down and when he had sore ears he often had multiple wakeups.

As for eating, Alex has just started getting really into it. He ate a huge plate of pasta last night. He has 3-4 bottles a day (bad I know). Trying to cut his morning and lunch ones down to 150ml, sometimes 100 but before bed (say between 6.30pm and 8pm) he usually has 300ml to 350ml!!! But Id rather load him up before bed so pfft to plunket.

A still has a real sparse vocab. Ah oh, duck, ta is about it. He can say mum and daddy but hardly ever does. I'm a bit worried about his lack of talking but he certainly understands directions like sit at your table, on your bottom, go find gus etc. His understanding and range of sounds has come on so much since grommets so hopefully he's just behind because of being glue eared for so long

He'll often really want one in the morning but usually just plays with his one at night. Every once in awhile he'll have one during the night but this is usually when he's sick or has been up crying for awhile and is genuinely thirsty. We have ma, arf arf (or a panting noise) for dog, grunt grunt noise for a pig, duck, uh oh, a mimic sound of a sing song version of hello, then he will sign for drink, potty, shower/bath. That's about it. BUT he has a tremendous 'listening vocabulary' as my Mom called it and I loved that phrase! He knows exactly what you are asking him to do most of the time and LOVES to show me where things are or go get things and bring them to me when I ask. He has also started jumping which is about the cutest thing in the entire world. MUST get a video!

Ryan has a mixture of cups. I always have a straw sippy cup floating around but he loves to drink out of a big person's cup but half the time wants to play with it and I end up with a big puddle of water on the carpet...

I haven't been posting but have been thinking of you guys. I hope he's on the mend and the spots clear up well - I can well imagine the devastation of a teenager covered in chicken pox scabs :-(

I know I had it when I was little, and DH thinks he has (I will check with MIL). We were just discussing it and hope Jack gets it out of the way while he is still young.

Fiona, I don't really know what to say. I don't want to sound brutal, and I do have some understanding about how it feels to be so chronically sleep deprived as you know, but if you aren't getting any sleep as it is, then I don't see that you have any sleep to lose by doing some hard yards in the night and making her hungry in the morning to take her calories through the day.

Jack is still generally on 2 BF a day (morning and bedtime) but the morning one is hit and miss. He mostly still has his water from a sippy cup but likes to drink from a regular cup but currently without much success

His vocab is expanding, although I think mostly you wouldn't recognise his words, but he is really into mimicking us at the moment. We now have banana and cheese (his 2 fave foods) and Grandma. However mostly we have a really frustrated noise he makes and a lot of him grabbing our hands and moving them toward what it is he wants. He really wants to have some words!

I'm confused. Ash is great all day. She'd happily take 2 naps but we're pushing her to 1 as she seems to settle better at night with just 1. However, she is still often taking ages to go to sleep at night. Then most nights she is waking and we go in about 8 times...first, water, second bottle of milk, 3rd pamol, 4th and 5th resettle, 6th time another 200mls formula. Then she will usually settle but is up at 6am for the day.

She is still not really eating. She LOVES to play with food but NEVER and I mean NEVER eats a whole meal i.e. she'd never eat a meal the size of her fist.

I've tried cutting the formula down and most days that goes relatively ok but then she will wake and want it at night. Most days she has 2 bottles in the day....after breakfast and after dinner. But with the settling issues etc we find she ends up having a min ot 600mls a day and often up to 1 litre of formula (most of that at night...like tonight she had 200mls at bedtime and 500mls between 1am and 3am).

I'm not sure how to manage it as I have no reserves to cope with being kept awake at night. As you know I haven't had good sleep in so many years and it is starting to really concern me.

Are your littlies still having bottles of milk? Or are you all onto cups now?

I would go mental and basically just shut Ryan in his room until he went to sleep once I knew he wasn't in any pain. I had a raging fever for 4 days and my friends who visited said I looked like I was on deaths door. I was the sickest I've ever been in my life. It is aweful in adults. HAve you been to do doc with him? I developed viral pnuemonia as well which is really common in adults with chicken pox and needed antibiotics and anti-viral meds.

We are just home from almost a week away with the inlaws. I'm shattered though as we had to share a room with Ash and that did not go well at all.

Ash is taking 2 to 3 hours to settle every evening. I thought it was a nap thing so have pushed her down to 1 nap but she is still doing it. She is 100% happy and fine during the day. Not really sure what is going on but it is tiring.

Managed to flood our entire garage today and hence have spent 8 hours cleaning it out. We had loads of boxes filled with books etc etc in there and they got wet so it's a huge job. Will continue into tomorrow I think.

I bought a Gus before G was born and named it Gus and now I have just randomly noticed that yours is called Gus too, but that is'n't the seahorses actual name, can you remember where you got it from, maybe we think crazy alike!!!!! Gus is our away from home toy (portacot), lately G is super into Zebra's and her My Little Pony from Christmas....don't know if she necessarily couldn't go without one or the other though, she does have a pooh bear at school for sleep time and home....

Anyhoo, injections went okay, screamed like a banshee for each but calmed pretty quickly (maybe within a minute for each), haven't had any temps yet.....and we are not going to and seems like that was that. She is completely awesome right at the moment, so giggly and cuddly and just scrumptious!!!!!! I love well babies

We were invited out tonight too, but might just drop in, then come home and watch some lame TV.

I have also decided that I need to go back on stupid sureslim so that I can lose around 15kgs, then I will be happy, will see how that goes though......

There are toys he seems to enjoy all the time, like his big Tonka truck, or the telephone or remote control, but no toy he has formed an attachment to. He has the same seahorse as Alex, but he never slept with it (he would roll onto it, turn it on and wake up) and once the last lot of batteries ran down we never replaced them.

We've been invited out to a friends bbq tonight but tbh it's more work taking a tired toddler than I can be arsed to worry about, they have offered a portacot but I just see it as being overtiredtoddler.com, so, early family fish and chips, a trip to the bay if he's doing OK to see a niece in the beauty pageant thing, and if he's either still doing OK or asleep we will go onto the bbq and play it by ear. Previous new years have been spent either ridiculously drunk with a big crowd of boaties over Gt Barrier Island or asleep on the couch (talk about contrasts).

Oh, and it's gonna be MY year too

She has only started to become attached to it majorly in the past 3 or so months. I keep waiting for it to happen but he just doesn't show much interest. He is very attached to his dummy though so perhaps that is stopping his attachment to another "soothing object". Who knows. I refuse to feel bad about him using his dummy though. I try to keep him away from it during the day but don't really plan to tackle weaning until we get back from Hawaii in July. I want him to be able to use it on the plane and in the strange hotels, etc.

I wouldn't bother weaning him from his stuffed animal...ever. Ella and Leah's sore throats may just hve been HFM. All they had were sore throats, but DF has come out over the last couple of days with blisters all over his hands, temperature and sore throat. We are assuming he had it much worse than the girls as..

1. He is a man

2. He had glandular fever a year a go and has never really recovered.

I got nothing!! I am awesome!!

She is finally trying to get herself upright, in the last couple of days she has figured out a crazy-ass way of pulling herself up onto her feet and then getting angry that she doesn't know how to get down, I know you will all remember this stage many, many months ago, so I thought I would give you a chance to reminisce!!! (sp?)

We have no New Years plans either......we did 3 parties last year, so I feel we have done our dash for a couple of years!

15 month jabs tomorrow (I know a little late!), not looking forward to it. Hope all the other little folk are feeling better and G still insists she is sorry if she inflicted the illnesses....

Over and out!

I've hardly ever made it to midnight and rarely do anything fun, at least now I have an excuse...

Bec - Ryan wasn't really fazed by the move. Leave the same sheets on his bed so that it all smells the same when he goes to sleep. IF he's like Ryan, he'll probably be a bit knackered by all the excitement of exploring a new place that he'll crash!

Tanya - meant to ask the other day but did Karl ever end up taking that job at CG?

I finally bought Ryan his big boy bed today. I got it, plus the mattress for $268 so feeling pretty happy about that. It's just a foarm mattress but figure he can get an innerspring when he's heavier and after he stops peeing the bed LOL.
