I just wanted to say to all the pyrethrin fans out there, it may be natural but it's still toxic ... we tried the robocan recently and I found my hayfever got bad and I got quite breathless - well I thought it was hayfever but then I did a quick wikipedia search and I found my culprit. So we stopped using it and my symptoms cleared up.

It's probably fine if your children don't have asthma or allergies, or autism, but if they do you might want to be a bit careful with it.

I had a robocan which was BRILLIANT for the first few months, and now USELESS!!! Have new batteries etc so not that! I complained to the robocan people and they sent me a free one but still useless. I don't even have it turned on anymore!

We have window stickers, and these red box thingies with fly spray stuff on the inside (both from the supermarket). The stickers are okay, but have never seen any flies near the box things.
Also sprayed every window with NO FLIES (from supermarket) and this is great! Still get lots and lots of flies inside (the joys of farm life) but at least now they die! I can have at least 50 dead flies each day!!!

Also we have 3 fly traps (from Bunnings) around the house outside. Last year had the ones with the white lid - they were great. This year tried the yellow lid ones ($1 cheaper) but they don't seem as good. Not sure if it's just the season so far or what.

Also we just found out that our septic tank was blocked and leaking - attracting more flies YUCK!!!!

ETA::: the NO FLIES spray is safe for children & pets when dry. It really stinks when you spray it - I just did it one evening once our baby was in bed and then went outside and left all the doors & windows open for a while.

We use (and love) the Ecomist system. Same dealie as robocan i believe, pyrethrins expelled every xx minutes. Hi, with the question about Raid, I am sure it is different to the robocan. I am living over in Australia and we can get the raid, mortein (sp?) and the robocan. We used it in our last house as we had an ant problem and it worked wonders. Didn't see an ant again inside!

I asked my plunket nurse about it the other day as I want to get one again and she seemed to think they are fine.

Another pyrethrin Robocan fan here It's great. You just set it and forget about it (at least until the "hisst" becomes a "kthunk" when the stuff runs out and you need to change the can ) I hate fly sprays and using chemicals too, so was sceptical when I was first told about the robocan. But when I was told about the pyrethrin option I thought "well, I'll give it a go" and so glad I did. Wouldn't be without it now. I don't really like the idea of robocan either. Robocan is now Raid. Does anyone know if the forumula or anything has changed since they took over? It;s natural stuff so it's meant to be safe, we've used it and I love it. I get the green one. It seems to keep heaps of stuff at bay, not just flies. I just turned it off during the winter months.

Oh and ants hate it too

I love the robocan!!

My DP cleaned the kitchen a while back and he threw it out as he thought you replace it every time! I think he just wanted to be banned from kitchen cleaning duties.

I flyspray! I HATE HATE HATE flys!!!! We are getting a Robocan soon.

You can get fly sprays that are safe for kids, But I dont spray near Caden anyways so its not a problem.

We use Robocan with the natural pyrethins (there's two types) .. and although I still have paranoid bouts it is brilliant at keeping all bugs at bay. We have it going 24/7 on the low setting.

We the Robocan. The idea of breathing in stuff is far more tolerable than flies .

I thought the same about the Robocan, but have had so much sucess with them when nothing else worked, that I wouldnt be without one now. So summer is obviously almost here because suddenly our place is abuzz with flies. I am one of those freaks who HATES fly spray and I am even deeply suspicious of the Robocan my in-laws have, I just don't like the idea that there are chemicals constantly in suspension in the air we (especially my baby) are all breathing.

Am I just being neurotic? Or does anybody have any wonderful, natural suggestions for repelling flies? (Other than keeping the house clean, obviously! But when there's paddocks full of cow manure all round us there are bound to be a few stray flies that decide they like the look of inside!)

ETA: I know the Robocan stuff is just pyrethrins, but I still don't like it But feel free to tell me I'm being silly!
