LOL Dana it is so true! Briona was our breech baby, except every time I went for a scan she was fine and every alternate week the mw would feel her and say she was definitely breech - even a second mw opinion said so LOL!

My baby is still breech, seen the ob last week and bacause it was sore for him to just have a little feel and see which way baby was lying he said the is no way he woiuld try the ECV, i was glad because id decided not to have it done anyways, so unless my little bubba turns soon, i will be have a ceaser on the 17th Oct. It's not just that the baby can get stressed in rare cases the ECV can tear the placenta which means you then have to have an emergency C. Also the cord can get caught around the baby's neck.That's why they monitor you while the ECV is being done.

It is rare but for us these risks which would result in an emergency Caesarian if they eventuated didn't seem worth it to avoid an elective Caesarian.

mummabrown, if my baby was still breach at 37 weeks my MW was reffering me for a ECV, he turned and I didnt end up needing one, but she told me that they do them at round 37weeks(term) because they baby can get stressed and if that happens they usually wisk you away for a c section.
I ended up with a c section anyways as my boy gotwell and trully stuck!

As much i as would like to have a normal birth, I think im gonna turn down the ECV as ive been told by too many and also read heaps about it and not many have been successful, baby may turn but then by the time you get home it has turned back again? I had an ECV - unsuccessful. although plancenta and size of baby didn't help.

Ive just seen my mw and have been referred to OB to have ECV, Ive spoken to others that have had this done, most have been unsuccessful and quite painful, it can be successful but baby can easily turn back again, Im not too keen to have it done as I dont like pain and feel that im going against nature.

Ideally a natural birth would be the best senerio but i feel my baby will do what it feels is best., what will be will be

It stands for External Cephalic Version and basically it is where an OB turns the baby by manipulating your tummy. Yep possible stomp on the cervix or with Spencer I use to get what i described as an electric shock up the jacksy which was caused by him moving with his bum engaged down there (can only imagine a head would be worse )
Also I could see his head at the top later on and normally could feel it even if I couldn't see it, he also liked to kick my ribs. He was extended breech so head and feet were up at my ribs. He was sucking on his toes minutes after being born

They are very similar to what I have. I've got a definite breech baby.

beckyB i had an ECV with jack because he was breech.....it was uncomfortable, but not really painful. they keep you in a while after so they can monitor bubs because it can start labour, but i think that's very rare.

Interesting reading your symptoms. I had a mw appt today (34w 2d) & she couldn't work out which way up bubs was. I get hiccups only down low (can't really feel them with my hand) and have never really felt like I need to go to the toilet heaps & heaps. Also I find at night, lying on my side, sometimes I'll wake up with a really sore hip. I just thought that was normal. Are any of these symptoms? What symptoms have you girls had for breech babys? MW said if she's still unsure by next appt (36wk) she'll send me for a scan to confirm, then we can discuss ECV & other options.

I've been swimming 3-4 times a week through a lot of my pregnancy, trying to make sure I sit leaning forwards not backwards, & doing some hands-&-knees stuff... Apparently my abs are quite good, which is why its hard for mw to be sure, and can make it harder for baby to turn. Anyone else been told this? My bub is breech & one of my hips is really painful when his head is over it. Way more uncomfortable than my normal baby last time!

My Mum also had a breech baby & she said the bum higher than the head thing worked for her.

I dunno about not needing the toilet as much - Rhylz bum sure made a good pressure against my bladder

Yes there are a few cases with babies turning back. But I think that a lot of approaches are successful. As with anything it depends on the individual a lot.

Whatever you choose to do I would recommend researching it thoroughly as there are upsides and downsides (no pun intended) to every option and ultimately remember it's your decision as to what you choose to try or not try. Don't let the medical guys let you think otherwise.

Carrying a breech baby is also quite uncomfortable.
I keep hearing more stories about baby turning nad then turning back again the next day or so,
I have been told about a massage therepist here in tauranga and will try her and see what results we get.

Rowan was extended breech and didn't turn and I had a C-sect at 37 weeks. It was a great experience even though I didn't get the birth I originally planned.

I think you have the right attitude about it which is great. It's most important that both of you are healthy.

Yes i agree, number one importance is healthy mum and healthy bubs, as long as all is good then shouldnt matter too much how baby gets into the world.
Thats a little disheartening thou becky that you went through all that trouble and baby still had its own way of thinking, but you never kow you may go into labour before booked c/s and baby may turn then.

Sometimes they don't turn because of other reasons, like a short umbilical cord. A c/s is not the end of the world, especially if you are prepared for it. At the end of the day, healthy babe, healthy mum is really all that matters. Hey mummabrown No my baby has not turned. I tried all the exercises, and also did acupuncture. I used the homeopathic remedy pulsatilla. And was doing swimming also. My baby has now engaged so it is unlikely bubs will turn as seems very settled in this position. I have been penciled in for a csection in 10days. how are you getting on? has baby turned?
Im 32 weeks ans have also just beentold that bay is in breech position, this was very upsetting and quite dissapointing as a natural water birth is our plan so far,
I have been told many different things to try to turn baby such as
~prop yourself up on some kind of platform/wedge    ( ironing board?) at an 45degree angle so your head is closest to the floor, you do experience blood rushing to your head but if you get up very slowly its ok, another person is needed to help you get into position, i have tried this daily for 4 days now, baby seems to move around alot but not completly all the way.
~on the floor , be in hands and knees position but with elblows and palms of hands on the floor, rest your head on hands with bum in the air, again baby is pointing towards the floor and should want to turn.
~there is a homoepathic remedy called Pulsatilla 200 which people have said to have helped. Im going to try this so will let you know?
~Acupunture on the little toe, point ub67, but can be costly? and more than one visit required.
~swimming as meant to be good also.
Im keen to try anything to help, i know i have heaps of time left for baby to turn and if babys dosent turn then oh well, what will be will be
so if you havnt heard of any of these then thy maybe worth a try

Caden was breech at 31 weeks, he turned back head down by my next appointment,
I would get on my hands and knee's a lot and iw ent swimming which helped him turn round.

I'm pretty sure Spencer turned at 35 weeks from head down to breech. They wouldn't try to turn him cos my membranes had ruptured and when I had a scan they said he was well and trully stuck, he was extended breech.
I had a cs at 38 weeks, normally they wait till 39 but because of my ruptured membranes and I also I had an irritable uterus and kept going into labour but not active labour they did it earlier.

A Breech Baby*
As a baby reaches full maturity at about 37 weeks, he becomes heavier and tips head-down. Some babies, however, remain breech until term.

If a baby is in the breech position at term he may be delivered by Caesarean section. If your baby is breech in the last weeks of pregnancy, though, you can be reassured that he will probably turn himself before labour actually begins:

30% of babies are breech at 30 weeks. Over half of these will turn spontaneously during the next two weeks.
14% of babies are still breech at 32 weeks. There is a 60 percent chance that a baby that is bottom-down will turn of his own accord before labour starts.
Less than 5% of babies are still breech at 37 weeks. A quarter of these will turn on their own, although this is less likely if the legs are extended or there isn’t enough room in the uterus, for instance because it is a multiple pregnancy or the baby is too large.
A few babies will kick themselves round once labour starts, as long as there is room.

Josh was head down bum up from about 25 weeks and at 37 weeks was half way engaged then at 38 weeks i went into labour and he came out feet first!! He had managed to flip around the day before so your bubs has heaps of time for turn around. Our bubba was breech until about 34 weeks, and then flipped up the other way all on her own. I was pleased because I was so sick of her head pushing into my ribs, way worse than being kicked there I thought at least the kicking was transient! Lol.

I got told by my midwife that Rhyley was head down bum up until I went for a growth scan at 36 weeks which told us he was breeched. We had a ECG but was unable to 'flip' - more reason was he was a ig baby, position on placenta and that he was jammed in my ribs, so at 39 weeks I had a c/s

At 31 weeks baby still has plenty of room to move. to encourage baby to move suggested positions were crawling on all floors, sitting backwards on a dining chair, rocking back and forwards on all fours, Put elbows and arms on side of bed while kneeling on the ground. i wouldn't worry about bubs lying breech as there's still plenty of time for bubs to turn......jack was breech but we didn't find that out until 36-37wks...then i had an ECV which failed, so he was born at 39wks by c/s

Some babies just won't move but I didn't think referring to a chiro at 34 weeks was a common plan of action! They don't worry about breech babies till 34 weeks, then they'll book you in to get it seen by a specialist at 36ish weeks, then at 37 you can try to get baby turned (ECV) or at 38 you can have a c/s if you need to.

Most breech babies turn on their own. Jack was transverse breech the whole pregnancy and turned at about 34 weeks (after I'd done all the paperwork for ECV through my private specialist - damn $150 a pop too!)

Sorry don't know about chiropractors and the effect on breech babies. There are a lot of exercises you can do but I think you need to wait a few weeks to do them. Hi all my midwife told me two weeks ago that my baby was head down. Now she is on holiday and I saw her locum on Monday who checked my stomach and position of bubs she has now informed me that bubs is head up and to see a chiropractor. Im a bit confused because i only feel bubs kicks down low and have ever only felt them low but thats also the only place I feel hiccups.
Has anyone else experienced this?

If bubs is actually head down and I go to the chiro will this turn my baby head up?

As im ony 31 weeks i have a bit of time but would like to know what is going on.
