Its very possible to wax your own.....although you have to be very flexible lol

I know several therapist who wax their own, but they are also little thin things! hehe

Just make sure you have a mirror and be careful! yip any shorter and bits would be missed.

Just look in the yellow pages (or local directory as deez said)....you should be able to tell from their address that they work from home. Ie being in a residential area etc.

And phone around for prices. Prices vary greatly. And also also what the price is for following visits and how much they cost. Do you have a local directory for your area. If you do just look up Beauty Therapy....They should all be listed in there. Yep i go to a lady who works from home and shes great, makes me laugh the whole time so i don't even notice she's doing it.

Oh and i only mentioned that length because that's what she suggested to me when i asked her.....spose any shorter than that would be difficult to wax tho.

Check out some therapists who work from home, they are generally cheaper and do just as good a job. A good therapist should never wax if the hair is too long - a trained therapist would know that!! If I had a client come in and the hair was too long I would just trim it. LOL Roksana....im off to do the same thing over the next couple of weeks...i can longer see over my tummy either and im pretty sure its looking pretty over grown too.

JK will shave it with the clippers first to about the length of the red bit of a match stick and then i will get Jules to wax the rest.....

The shorter the hair the less it hurts.

Now this might be TMI but I think I have to go for a wax....I cant see past my tummy now and also its like weeds down there...no matter what I do they are growing in warp speed!

helen21 , just thinking about your sister and her peircing, i took all mine out before i was pregnant but i reckon it would become really uncomfortable. with all the extra bloodflow and pressure down there!! plus bigger chance of infection (with all the extra "discharge'...mmmm nice!)

had to laugh about the "swamp monster" comment!! i think i was pretty similar last time too! dispite my hubbys artistic efforts as well! (possibly went to the same beauty school as yours!!??)

With my first I'm sure the birth would have looked like a gooey swamp monster coming out of a jungle!!!

Last time I got DH to trim it but he got all arty and shaved a heart into it, or so he said. I couldn't see it because I was so huge!

This time round getting a braz would be a good idea but considering the fact getting my eyebrows waxed takes me a ton of courage I'm not sure I'd be brave enough!

Sort of off the subject but my sister has got a clitorus(sp?) ring and I asked her if she plans to take it out either during pgy or at least birth and she doesn't plan to. I have awful thoughts of it somehow stretching and tearing or the baby grabbing it on the way out!! Before i got preggy with Vincent i was fine with bikini line being waxed & legs etc, even when at end of preggy with him i was ok with legs being waxed but after preggy, it was worse than before. I had my bikini line waxed fo rmy sisters wedding (V was 4mths old) & it was really really sore. even hurt more for my legs! it was fine, no different to normal except i had to hold my legs differently for the 'back bits'...know what mean...!

i thought it was a great idea when one of the girls mentiond getting their DH to trim it for them when they get bigger....so i asked mine lastnight if hed mind? and honestly he acted like a 15 year old boy whos never seen one......and i said " well y not, you know it inside out" and he quicky said "shutup" blushing and totally uncomfortable!

Hahaha great topic! I used to wax / shave before I had O, and during my pregnancy DH used to help trim down there for me!

Interestingly since O was born, I havent really worried about it. Prob because I never get to have a shower long enough to do anything other than wash (quickly)!!!

I have just booked in for a bikini wax tidy for Sat morning, as DH and I are going away for a romantic night for our wedding anniversary on sat, and figured it would be a nice "suprise" for him  !!!!! I am a bit nervous though - as I still have quite a tummy left over from O, and feel very self conscious about my bodt now...and its a bit like the "wild man of borneo" down there!!!

I usually bikini wax and trim, DH likes me to look "like a woman" LOL but while I was pregnant I was so sick and in pain that I couldn't be stuffed. It must have been like a jungle!! But DH didn't care (so much gross stuff goes on down there anyway!) and when I mentioned it to my MW (haha) she said "seriously, there are a lot worse-looking things to be worrying about at the time" and none of the Drs or anything seem to mind. And it never made a difference with stitches and stuff, as far as I know (I had big cuts as it was a forceps delivery).

wow what an interesting topic. I had a friend who waxed downt here regularly. she said it didn't hurt. i trim it i guess. I shaved last preggy had started early. Just don't like the thought of all the hair around bubs when being delivered etc. i guess i'm just funny. I have trimmed it a few times so far this preggy & really keep thinking i must kepe it shorter. have long bits in between though that just get trimmed, but normally i shave the front and sides as much as possible. i tend to either go all bare on the front, r leave just a little bit so it not itchy. Although been doing it so long now it no longer itchy. First few times were, but no longer. I found that waxing has made my hair alot softer/finer.

kebakat - i agree with your DH, so for that reason when I've had them done I always leave a little strip down the middle.
Braz come in all sorts of different 'styles'.....all gone, landing strip, even the hair being shaped into things like stars etc!

Roksana - i dont see how the regrowth would hurt a baby being born. after all they are coming from the inside out so not even close if you know what i mean. I always wondered that if I fully shaved it off before baby (which I considered) but then wouldnt regrowth hurt the baby as it comes out?? so I just trimmed it to the best I can (with the huge belly on the way).....and I know I was told to take a shower just before my epi was given and made sure I cleaned my bits......but again DD never came out that way!!

I have been going to the same beautician for a couple of years now, she was fantastic when I was pregnant, she raised the head of the bed slightly as some women get nausea if they lie flat on their back.
I laughed at the hopsital MW when I was in labour and being prepped for the C-sect. She said she needed to shave me...I said like hell you will. Poor women, she then realised it didn't need to be done.

You'll find that each therapist has her own technique danaj. And also the size of the client is taken into consideration too.
Alot do the underside with the client on her side with legs curled up.....heaps of different ways to get the job done! lol

When I had my kids (now 15, 14 and 8) I never shaved or trimmed.....never even thought about it. And I never had a comment from my midwives or my kids dad. I havn't had a braz in ages. No way i'm shaving, ouch!! Shaving hurts more growing back than getting braz in my opinion.

The book says you're supposed to trim before EDD or they might do it for you. Only one lady gets near my Vajayjay and that's my waxing girl!!

One q though, My girl makes you lift your legs and put your knees together for the underside. None of this icky hands and knees business. Can you get your legs high enough with a gigantasaur belly in the way?

I'll be booking in as a good friend told me it was far easier as she had stitches an no hair made hygiene easier for her e.g. fluids drying TMI.

I had brazilians throughout both my pregnancies
I thought it hurt a bit more than usual, but didn't have any comments from my therapist. The only thing she said was about how many other pregnant women who had come in lately and new mums with their little bubbas who sat in the capsule while mum had it done. That's where I draw the line - six weeks after the birth and I'm definitely not keen to get another one done yet! Enough pain down there for a while I think!

I didn't have them done when I was pregnant but done afterwards. But I did however do it myself with a razor before I had the boys.

I don't get a brazillian but did continue to have a bikini wax during my pregnancy and my last ended up being only 5 days before Jack was born. If I remember the most uncomfortable part was lying on my back.
DH did say after Jack was born that I should have got a brazillian though as it would have been tidier during the birth! Some beauticians won't wax that late in pregnancy if you havent been getting them done regularly. But I'm sure you would have mentioned that at appointment time.

Also the size of some ladies (which im sure your not as you didnt mention this) can cause a bit of a problem while pregnant. For example a lady who is overweight already (esp with an overhang tummy) needs to help make the skin taught for the waxing,,,and if they are large with the overhang tummy they need to pull it up and push (hope you kwim).. in this situation close to EDD it wouldnt be advisable.

I think its easier to errm maintain after birth if there is no hair there JMO

Hey emmakate, I'm much earlier in my pg than you (so not sure if that makes a difference with comments from the waxing lady!) but I kept my waxing appointment last week and it didn't hurt (any more than usual) and the "waxer" knew I was pg so maybe she didn't dare make any comments

I always figured, they have seen it all before so why comment. But a friend of mine was telling me once how her waxing lady commented on how "young" she looks ...??!?!?!? WTF? Weird.

yah let us know- will be interesting- ive always wondered what our bits were suposed to look like at birth- i didnt know if we were supposed to be bare, natural or wat! so for my first i went for the in-between look -trimmed! 

which was very wierd as im usually bare! (TMI)

Anyway it wasn't bad and I had been going to the same women since before falling preg and she was great about it PLUS she had to be, if she said anything mean I probably would have got up and smacked her one I was a grumpy preggy lady.

I have never had a wax down there, but considering it near when bub is due, just to make it look hmmm nice lol sounds werid but oh well, and since I wont be able to see down there cant do it myself.

hey all.
i just made an appointment to get a brazilian wax next week... i had them regularly until i got pregnant with my daughter (wow that's a while ago now...) so know what i'm in for...i think...!!!
my question is to those who have had them during pregnancy...how did it go? i've heard all the horror stories of dodgy comments from the 'waxer' to the 'waxee' about the appearance of their vaginas... hmmmm.
pretty much i'm super nervous now i've made the appointment and need some reassurance!!!
