I used a wedge for the first wee bit, but then as soom as she got mobile I took the wedge out.

I don't believe in the safety sleep, it's good for brain development if the baby is able to move freely about the cot. I always find her up the top snuggled in somehow.

She's been fine and sleeps like a gem... 11-12 hours a night (has been from about 7 weeks!! If she wakes, she re-settles herself. We used the wedge when we first came home from hospital and when Leah went into her cot we put the safety sleep on as we had the head raised and she kept slipping down without it.

I have to admit that its still on her bed, most nights she goes straight to sleep with it on and some nights she undoes it and sleeps without, she sleeps the same whether its done up or not but most mornings shes still wrapped up in it and tucked in all her blankets. I am leaving it on until she doesn't want it anymore.

My boys were sleeping all over the cot from early on and would bang their heads etc, but just got used to it, and I think learnt not to put their heads so close to the wood.. sometimes I find Tyde with his face right up agains the wood ofhis cot and I think it must feel nice , maybe the cool of the wood on his hot cheeks from teething?

I found that my boys flat head was corrected as soon as he started moving in his cot and laying where he wanted to.

It's totally a personal preference and what suits your baby I think. :)

We had a wedge and then later bought the safety sleep, by about 2 months Spencer was strong enough to push the wedge apart so it stopped working. The safety sleep we only stopped using about a month ago and I loved it, from a young age Spencer started pushing with his feet until his head was rammed into the top of his bassinet and then had no idea to get himself out of the situation so we bought it for that and it became a great sleep cue.

you could wait to see what kind of baby you get. Anyssa always moved her head from side to side so we never had to worry about a flat spot, and she was always really wriggly so a wedge wouldn't have been much good for her. A rolled up facecloth or something is fine to use to keep a baby's head in the right place if needed.

I didn't like safety sleeps until A started rolling over at 10 weeks, and we had to get one to stop her from squashing her nose against the bassinette sides and then banging her head against the side of the cot. We have been using a safe-t-sleep on my son for 18 months and we love it because it stops him wriggling around and getting into awkward positions (in addition to knowing that he's safe) . Now that he's older, we've tried to put him down without it and he just won't sleep - too busy sitting up and looking around the room. We're wondering if we'll ever get him out of it?! :-)

I can't comment on the wedge as haven't used one, but highly recommend the Safe-T-sleep. Only started using it when Eva moved into her cot. I picked two up second hand off TM, for about $50 all up.

To stop the flat head, I put a rolled up nappy in the Safe-T-sleep and alternate the side during the day.

I swear by safety sleeps, all of my girls have been in them from the day I brought them home. They were great for peace of mind that baby couldn't slip under the blankets, they kept them in one spot in the cot and stopped them rolling over etc. Maya was in hers from birth to about 12 months, the gremlins were in theirs from birth to about 9 months. Baby's one is already on her cot. Yes it is a PITA only having one when they need to be washed, I bought a bassinette size one for $35 and used that as a back up with the extension piece from the classic one while the classic one was in the wash coz the extension piece doesn't really need washing as it's under the mattress.

We could have done with a sleep wedge for Mercedes as she insisted on sleeping with her head on one side and got a flat spot but we made do with a rolled up blanket. We had a saftey Wedge from the first night home, Neosha slept great in it because we could prop her up on her side and she was happy. Also the covers come off and they wash and dry quickly but as Kebakat said they are cheap enough to have two. We kept her in that for a couple of months then pulled out our Safety Sleep and it was terrible!!! Everytime I pulled the valcro it would make the whole KKKKKK noise and she would scream so after a week I gave up. We tried it again at about 6-7 months and it was better but you really do need two of them (I found anyway) so we stopped using it and yeah haven't looked back really lol. We also side slept as I was paranoid about flat head. It worked really well and we got rid of it at about 4.5 months as he had started rolling and it was waking him up. We now need a safetsleep as he rolls and crawls upt o the top of the cot in his sleep and wakes screaming as he has hit his head.

So I say you need both as they serve different ages well. We used the wedge, because my lil man perfered 1 side to sleep on & he got a flat head. The wedge was great for correcting that.

We also have a safety sleep which we have never properly used, tried it once & he hated it!! Wasted all that $. In the beginning we used a sleep wedge. It was great for us. it kept him nice and cosy and we did side sleep him (because of reflux) so it gave us peace of mind so know it stopped him rolling over onto his tummy. Because they are cheap we had 2 so if one got dirty we had another ready to use.

We had a safety sleep given to us very early on but hated it for months. The velcro scared the living crap out of Daniel and I saw no need for it when they aren't moving around much. We did however start using it at 6 months I think and I'm ditching it now. It's a total PITA when it gets dirty and you only have one. Hi ladies

I have seen the safety sleep and sleep wedges in the shops and didnt really pay any attention to them until last week when my obstatrician mentioned getting either one for prevention of SIDS so I was wondering what you would recommend and how other people have found using either one and with the safety sleep would you need more than one for when they had any little accidents in the bassinet or cot?
