So I haven't been in here for months! Hope everyone is good. Jakes b'day tomorrow (I was in labour 3 years ago). Since Morgans is thurs we're having a combined party next sat and will just do a family thing with my mum neice etc tomorrow night. We actually have 6 third b'day parties over the next two weekends, so after soccer tomorrow we're off to a friend from daycares party at chipmunks, then one from coffee groups McDs party sunday.
We're doing a jungle theme and having it at playcentre -- can't wait!!

All good here. Jakes full on but pretty cuddly and really sweet too. Morgan is walking and thinks she knows it all (clapping, nodding, pointing, waving, yelling etc!). I'm back at work 3 days a week, so VERY busy and no time to rest these days!!

Better go back and have a read .....

Is this your first scan or did they give you an early one?

We are thinking bike too, he is bike obsessed, we put him on some at toyworld though and he couldn't reach the peddles so we need to keep looking to find one for a short bum. We have a warehouse trike too that he lives on and whenever we go to anyone's house who has bikes that's all he wants to do (but he pushes them along with his feet on the ground, and sometimes on tip toes).

3 years, it's crazy, it has gone so quick. I am really loving this age right now though, we have less tantrums and the whole talking thing is so awesome and funny. He is a right little bossy boots which cracks me up, and tells me how to look after his brother, tells me which way to drive, gets very adamant about things, will ask what something is then tell me i"m wrong and that it's something else entirely. Today a friend asked if he was happy and his reply was "no I"m a truck"

Ella is so much more into this year- she 'helped' us put up the Christmas tree last weekend and decided that one of the Santa decorations was her toy and now brings it with her everywhere. She also loves Christmas songs- Jingle bells & I saw Mummy kissing Santa Claus are her favourites. She is still a little bit unsure about Santa- she says she loves Santa (but that is because she now realises that Santa is going to bring her presents), but when she sees Santa at the shopping mall she goes all shy. We have her daycare xmas party this Friday so will be interesting to see how she is around Santa (last year she started crying as soon as he appeared).

Jake got an intestinal bug similar to Giardia so spent the last 3 - 4 weeks with lots and lots of runny poos so hes back in nappies fulltime. Its starting to settle now and hes asking to go on the toilet again and I'm looking forward to having him back in knickers!
I used the potty in the lounge to start with too and he slowly started asking for the actual toilet after watching daddy (poor DP lol) but the balancing hurt his legs so we got a padded seat to fit in the normal seat and he happily sits up there now - very comfy. When we go out I just ask him regularly and if its been half an hour since he last sat on the toilet I'll just take him to the closest loo and pop him on. If we're in town there are the little toddler toilets in the parents rooms otherwise I'll just hold him forwards so his legs don't get too sore. I take 2-3 changes of pants but normally we were getting through our outings accident-free or with one change.

Very few accidents and now 99% of the time will tell me when a wee is coming. She even managed to do a wee at daycare on the toilet, which I was quite proud about. Poo's have been a different story, but I think in the last day or so we have reached a breakthough and this morning for the first time she told me that a poo was coming and sat down on the potty to do it. Think next week I might try her on the toilet

Seems a lot easier using a potty, as it is just there in the living room and we don't have to rush to the bathroom. Have also been using marshmallows as a rewards and she loves them- yesterday she woke up from her nap crying because she did a poo in her nappy and knew that meant she couldn't have a marshmallow, poor little thing had tears going down her face because she was so upset. Luckily today she seems to cope with it alright and just told me 'next time Mummy Ok'.

The boys start going to a carer one day a week on Friday so I'm think I will give that a while cos Spencer is not the most confident boy and it might take him a while to adjust, they went this Friday for 3 hours and it went very well, tears when I left but happy the rest of the time and then he didn't lose it when I came to pick him up so that's good. Don't want to throw too much at him at once and want to make sure I'm properly prepared.
Might sound really odd but out of all the parenting stuff the toilet training is the bit I have been most worried and unsure about, started thinking about when first pregnant I think it's cos I really have no idea what the hell I'm doing, hopefully the book will help.

Things are going really well here, heaps of new words and mini sentences. He's loving being outside, think he would live in the garden given the chance. Some sharing issues going on and he's not always that gentle with Kyle, or us for that matter, oh and the major issue is the throwing, am totally over that! Reward first and then what you want them to do.

As for getting him to like sitting on it again what about doing what we are going to do and just doing prepotty training. We are going to put him on the potty a few times a day, and just distract him, he's not going to be required to do anything except sit on it just for like a minute. We will read a book or just talk to him so hes happy just sitting on it and there is no aversion to it. First we will do it with pants on. He also either does poos when he gets put down for a nap or goes and hides behind the dining room table.

We went and got him some undies yesterday. Hes ok about sitting on the potty but wanna get him used to sitting on the toilet over the next couple of weeks (with pants on so just sitting there to begin with) so that hes confident when we start.

Edited by kebakat

I tried when he was about 20mths cos he had shown all the signs for a while and would tell me before he poo'd etc .... and we got every poo on the potty when at home for 2 weeks, but they don't help them in the under 2s rm at his daycare unless they are fully TT and ask to go, and he was still in naps when we were out, so go a bit confused and he had a panic about it most of the time (I had to hold him while doing it), plus he didn't get wees in time, so we stopped. He was 2 the week I was due, so was going to try again before then, but being heavily pg it didn't appeal .... now that its getting a bit warmer, and hes been telling me when he wees for a month or so now, I'd better get on with it. Hes only just moving to the over 2s next week too ... they didn't have any room for him earlier. So hopefully seeing all the other kids using the toilets will help, but there was no point starting til he moves.

He is starting to get very annoying with the 20 questions ---- whats this? whats that noise? what happened to that cars wheel? wheres sienna/nanny/daddy? what happened to sams (cat) fluff? where the bubbles gone? what you doing mummy? etc etc .... and over and over and over ..... Its great that we can have conversations and he can tell you exactly what he thinks / likes / wants .... but man, I wish he'd just stop talking for 5mins some days!!!

We are doing some pre-potty training starting today properly though. My friend sent me this freaking awesome book about it from a lady who has toilet trained 300+ kids and it has all her tips and she thinks they don't need huge language skills to learn how to go potty and as she explains it shes so right. Daniel can understands most instrustions so the potty will be no different. Its just learning a new behaviour to replace an old behaviour. The lady who wrote the book TT her boys from the day of their 2nd bday as a right of passage so to speak.. Very cool book.

I'm gonna get DH to read it and come up with our plan of attack and start. I would start next weekend but I'm going to wellys so thats no good. But it gives daniel a chance to get over being sick and then its all on. Which will be good cause he needs to be TT to go to montessori

Was quite high and big compared to the cot so maybe that's why he didn't like it.

I think we are still some way off toilet training, he tells me ocassionally when he has been or is going but I think we need to work on the language a bit more first cos at the moment everything is "poos", so am trying to explain the difference between poos and wees and also that nappies are called nappies and not called poos..lol

You're about a month behind me aye Jillian? We're having an anatomy scan in about 3 weeks so hopefully bubba will spread its legs and give us a good, definite view!!! I feel sorry for Jake not having as much of my attention when I'm not feeling well too but I just remind myself he won't remember it lol I have to rest alot coz of minor complications so it means lots of stories. I'm super-glad I've stopped throwing up too!

Jake got a real bad chest infection a few weeks back and we put him back in nappies coz he was too sick to get to the potty and now hes having abit of trouble getting to the potty for #2s but hes back to weeing good. I just let him run round with a bare bum or a pair of undies on and he goes and sits on the potty when he needs to go so maybe you could try that with Ella? Jake can't tell me clearly that he needs to go toilet so when we go out I need to ask him regularly and when he comes and garbles something at me I always ask if its the toilet first and he'll nod if thats what he means.

Hows Spencer doing in his big bed?

Congrats Shellis!! I'm just praising him heaps when he tells me.

We have just taken the sides of his cot, tried to put him straight into a single bed but it really didn't go well. He slept with the sides off the cot last night though and in a new room, just seeing if he will have a nap. He often won't nap anyway so I won't be surprised if he refuses to. He can't get out of the cot which is quite funny, it's actually lower than all the other things he climbs onto and off but for some reason he seems to think it's miles down to the floor when in actual fact his toes are nearly touching the ground. Quite handy though as I don't need to worry about him climbing out.

He is cutting his last 2 year old molar...yay....Kyle has just cut his first tooth though So I didn't time that very well.

That's great that he is enjoying having a little sister Nikki. The first thing Spencer says when he gets up is "bubba", he can't say Kyle so we've all ended up calling him bubba instead. When DH gets him up though he says "daddy", he very rarely says "mumma"

Jake has been really good with Morgan, he was a little bit more temperamental generally at first (but aren't they all turning 2??) but then we found out later he had chickenpox, so that could have been why. He is always happy to see "baby" and asks about her and gives her the odd cuddle. He wants to "hold it" every now and then but as soon as he does he wants "mummy hold it" haha. Got a little funny with dh holding her at first, as he was looking after Jake while I was in hospital and has been off work doing most things with him since I had a c section .... but hes OK now. And I am so surprised at how patient he has been when I'm feeding her and he has to wait for my help. He didn't have any patience before, so its probably been good for him!!

Jake talks all day too ... thankfully I understand most of it.

Its coming up a year now and since things have settled down for us we decided to get into a proper evening routine. We now have dinner at 5 and Jakes in the bath round half-past. Hes into bed with a milo and gets his 'bedtime' story read to him and lights are out by 6.15ish. Its working so well - we aren't hearing from him til 7.15 the next morning!! He sometimes gets quite frustrated when he can't do stuff as well.

Is so amazing how much he knows, he doesn't have that many words still but I'm shocked at what he understands, he obviously understands a huge vocabulary but just doesn't vocalise much. I was surprised today when I asked him where is the 5 and he picked the right magnet off the fridge and then picked up a 7 and said seven. He's really good at following commands now as well, most of the time he still has some deaf moments...lol, is good cos he loves being included and "helping" so I can give him little tasks to do like passing me wipes when I'm changing Kyle and so forth.....oh funny talking about wipes he tries to wipe his own bum when I change him....it's just too funny. I actually I spend most of the day laughing at the things he does, especially the mimicking, is totally hilarious and the things he does that I didn't even realise he would be noticing or that I would be doing. Like he took my hair brush and went and stood in front of the mirror brushing his hair And when DH is on the phone Spencer gets his bob the builder phone and it's so funny, he does all the same hand gestures whilst chatting and laughing away.

Yay about the big bed, we still have the sides on the cot. I think at night he would be ok without not sure about nap time though, although when he decides he's not having that it just means he stands in the cot screaming but can't get out! I might take the sides off soon and see how we go, perhaps he would have a nap if he could get in and out of his own accord....hmmmm something to thing about.

Ella has to do everything herself now and refuses any help...in some ways it is good, but when it takes her 1/2 hr to put her socks on (she can put the sock of her right foot all right, but can't do her left foot) it gets a bit frustrating- several times in the past week we have gone shopping with her only wearing 1 shoe & sock because she refused any offers of help. Also I can't help with feeding her (I can't even look at her spoon without her saying 'no mummy help, away', brushing her teeth, washing her hair etc.

We brought her a big bed last weekend and she went staight in it no problems- so yay! helped that her cot sides have been off for about 6 months now. She looks so tiny through in the bed, but is good that she has bit of extra room to roll around.

went to visit a friends newborn today- forgotton how tiny they can be (and how small the nappies are). Ella was really good with the baby and was talking about it all afternoon and was asking when we are going to see the baby again (and I quote) "mummy cuddle baby".

We did the normal thing before the bath, and when DH told him it was time for a bath when he finished his milk he stopped drinking and ran into the next room. DH had a look and he was standing there smirking, so told him to come back and drink the milk or he was going straight to the bath. He drank it then ran to the other couch and lay there grinning at DH .... anyway, DH ended up telling him he was going to the naughty spot when he wouldn't go .. which he happily went to on his own, and was sitting there grinning when DH went back!! So he was dragged to the bath .... had a bit of a panic but I had a packet of fruit nuggets (lollies as far as Jake is concerned) in with me, which of course he wanted, so thru all the drama we managed to get him in with a struggle ............ and he was completely fine once he sat down!!! Hopefully that will be the end of the drama! We've never had any bath issues with him - hes loved the bath from the day we got home from hospital!

We've never really had the heart / guts to send him away for the night before! But with no 2 coming I thought it was time. DH thinks we should wait til hes old enough to understand ... but I think the younger he gets used to it the better.
