Aw Liz, you are a fantastic Mum! Even I wouldn't mind you as my own! (If I were say 20 years younger).

I had a similar moment when Hannah choked on a bit of persimmon as we were in the supermarket aisle and she was in her buggy. I didn't notice and it wasn't until a guy ran over from the next aisle that I realised. Felt soooo terrible. Lucky he saw or she might have choked seriously.

Good to hear Jake is fine. It's all a bit of preparation for the many time he'll get himself into those type of situations over the next year or two! Oh Liz.....I can only imagine what that was like...in all honesty I dont know how I would have reacted....I dont think any of us will know untill we are put in that situation....But just remember you are not a bad mum. You have two beautiful, healthy and loved boys.

Big hugs Liz - can't say much cos i'm just as 'blonde' but please don't beat yourself up about it, fear and panic hit you at times like these, and theres nothing you can do - after Ayja fell at 6 days old, i grabbed her pretty much as she hit the floor i think - but then sat on our bed, staring into space, just cuddling and holding her, in a state of shock for at least 2 - 3 minutes before i thought "oh crap!!!!' and started shaking and sobbing uncontrollably, and woke everyone up. It is a normal thing to freeze.

And the flashbacks possibly never completely go away - but get less frequent - every time i closed my eyes for a while i would get them, see Ayja on the ground, and after last week i got them again, and still get them. I find that when it's just me and Arna I am ok and can do what I need to do to "save" her (wether its choking, drowning, dog jumpin on her etc) but if my partner's home or anyone is around I tell them to do it!!
Like a few weeks ago we were driving home from town and Arna had a biscuit or something and started choking and I told david to stop the car before I jumped in the back seat... I don't know why cause I could reach her from where I was, but as soon as he stopped she was ok.. My mum did the same thing when I nearly drowned and my swim instructor had to haul me out of the water (silly me thought I could float without flotation aides, called out to mum to watch and just lept on in!). I agree with the others. DOn't beat yourself up and don't think you are a bad mum, fear can make people freeze. I remember when someone I used to be close with got hit in the face by a firework back firing....all I could was collapse and scream luckily as someone else grabbed him and shoved his head under cold water...when it's someone we care about it's so easy to panic and be rooted to the spot. Oh liz thats aweful but i know the feeling. We were at a friends house and Keegs started choking really badly on an orange and I couldnt move. In the end my friend was the one who stuck her fingers down his throat to pull it out.
Im ok if something happens and its just me and the boys but if we are at friends/family and something like that happens I sometimes freeze. Weird huh
So hey dont beat yourself up even thou you can still see his face he wont even remembver a thing. I've done the exact same thing - Maya was walking waist deep in water and slipped forward and couldn't find her footing. I did pull her out, but only after the lifeguard screamed at me to grab her. On xmas day last year caitlyn was in the pool with my cousins and brother i turned around for A SECOND literally just a second and she was in the deep end struggling and i couldnt move-it was like i was stuck, luckily i yelled to my bro and he grabbed her
And another time caitlyn totted at the top of the stairs and i went to grab her and before i got to her she fell, head over feet and i could just watch helplessly...and does anyone find u have nightmares afterwards where for instance the stairs (for eg) are not carpeted but stone?

As Lu said, fear does strange things to ppl and everyone reacts differently, I would of froze as well. I remember when Xanda was only 3wks old and on antibiotics, I squirted it in his mouth too fast and he was choking and couldn't breath, I just stood there holding him and not knowing what to do. My aunty grabed him off me and managed to rescue him from chocking to death. I felt so terrible that I just birst into tears and couldn't stop. Please don't beat yourself up over it, It will just make you feel worse. Lizzle you poor thing, that must have been the scariest moment ever! Don't beat yourself up over it, I'm not sure how I would have reacted, would have probably frozen too. My sister went through a similar thing when her youngst was only 1, he had a seisure and turned blue and she just stood there, didn't know what to do so hubby sorted it out and bubs was fine, so you are not alone there. Me! Had a horror day today. Every saturday morning, jake and i go to swim clas. Usually mum takes us. Today Dad rang and wanted to take Jake and I. So I said yes. He also brought my nephew Sam, who's five. We got to the Lido and of course Sam wanted to swim, so I said that Jake could get in too, but to go to the toddler pool. Jake and Sam got in. Anway, after about five minutes Jake slipped and started doggy paddling. His head was going under and he was in trouble....and I froze! I knew that he was potentially drowning, and I stood there. Dad ended up running in, in his clothes and getting him. i feel like the worst mum ever. Standing there while my child drowns. I nearly burst into tears as we went over to the swim school (where incidentally Jake had a great lesson and enjoyed it all).
