Author: muppet
Subject: 16583
Posted: 23 April 2008 at 8:58am

Hey,

I'm a music teacher and of the opinion that everyone can sing! So many people say they're tone deaf when really only a tiny proportion of people actually are. It's all about having enough control over your voice to get it in tune!

Although I wouldn't actually call myself a singer, I've picked up a lot of vocal technique just from being in choirs.

The key things are breathing, support and an open throat - I'm sure if you did a google search you could come up with some exercises for these things. I'm a horn player like mummy_becks and the breathing is pretty much the same no matter if you sing or play a wind instrument.

For tuners, have a look here (sorry I don't know how to do a link) http://www.creativemusicproducts.co.nz/osCommerce/index.php?cPath=159_162_167

Or do you need to have some kind of a half-decent voice to begin with?

I've always wanted to learn how to sing & most of all I'd love to teach Lucas how to sing. Would be something we could do together.

And how would I go about teaching myself? Are there programs available or maybe something online?

TIA
