Better late than never with my advice but I've had to use thrush treatments twice this pregnancy.

The first time I got given a suppository (3 day) and the second time I got given a cream (5 day). I've got to say the suppository was my preferred option - less messy - but the longer treatments seem to do better at kicking the thing in the butt.

Also got given some live acidophilus bacteria tabs which I kept in the fridge and took one every morning.

All this was on Midwife and Pharmacist approval.

And in terms of home remedies - another thing other than yoghurt that helps relieve the itching is to put a little bit of vinegar in lukewarm water and then soak a flannel in that. Once it was in, I didn't feel it personally. But, I don't think I was very dry.

I used a wet cold flannel as well Emz. Helped get me through the night before I got Canasten.

Sally, try the Canestan that has the pill insertion. Talk to your pharmacist. Mine went in a day and a half. A few weeks ago I had thrush and did the six day canesten thing, it took until about day four or five until I felt some relief so keep on with it! Eating the yoghurt as well as topical application will help. I found the 6 day canestan treatment (vaginal one) worked wonders - but it did take a few days to kick in so keep on top of it Sally. I had thrush a couple of weeks ago. Mum picked me up some Canestan stuff, the pharmacist recommended the pill inserted up the vag. And the cream for external. Yoghurt is good for a quick fix. you could pour the yoghurt on a pad and wear it to soothe. I had pretty much non stop thrush so I know how terrible it is. Eat lots of yoghurt as well. I think you're right about the tampon kawwww. It looks like I'll just have to be patient & hope the cream kicks in soon. all the cream i had said they'd rather you didn't use it in pregnancy..i didn't get it till 2nd tri..and normally would take diflucan..but you aren't allowed to during pregnancy and had to go for messy cream instead:( the pharmasist said don't use the applicator..the mw and doc said don't be silly use it.. so i did and eventually it worked..i read somewhere thrush like 20x more common during pregnancy:( !! but if your doc said its all cool then go for it..

Does anyone know if it is safe for me to insert a tampon with yoghurt on it at 37 weeks?? I've had thrush for about a week now & it's driving me around the bend . I've done 3 days of a 6 day Canestan treatment but so far it hasn't improved much if at all...

Hi, Yeah I had that problem also. Especially in my early days.

The pharmacist never prescribed anything to be either without consent from the doctor. I couldnt get to the doctors for a couple of days so to try and relieve the itching I used natural yoghurt, plain, unsweetened. This is what I read in a pregnancy mag i think it was. It dissappeared after a day or so for me.

It would be advisable to see a doctor though or a midwife. Ive heard they prescribe medications for you also.

Good luck. i know how horrible it is as most of us would. Very common in pregnancy. Ive been lucky enough not to get it again, touch wood.

I need some info. I have thrush and could be pregnant and need to know, can I take the standard medications from the pharmacy for it? I went to one today who said first of all that there was one they thought I could take, checked with pharmacist and she said she would prefer not to sell it without doctors approval. so me being me went to another one who gave it to me, a 3 day treatment as it is lower in chemicals.

Now ideally I would see a doctor in this instance but I couldn't today, and probably wont be able to tomorrow.
