Just figured it out today (after reading this post and seeing the midwife). Luckily I'm at the end of the pregnancy, but have had it for the past week and man it is wickedly sore! Midwife said you can get a belt to help, but I won't be getting one as I'm so close to the end. The good news is that it goes away after you give birth - not much help if you have a while to go though. She also told me to make sure I keep my legs closed as much as possible so that I'm putting weight and pressure on both of them together, instead of one side or the other. I hope you guys find some relief, it's not nice!

I remember feeling so alone in my pain and thinking that every other pregnant women was jumping around happy and pregnant :) I also remembering feeling like I was cheated out on a good pregnancy. I also had a shocking midwife who didn't know a thing about SPD and dismissed my pain and frustration! I found out about my condition through the internet. Of course I read the most horrifying and worst case scenarios, which are not generally the case.

Women's physio are the best and most understanding.
Jill Wood and Vicki Holmes who are based in Parnell are awesome too! The best in understanding how it actually feels to go through this.

PM me if you want to get in touch and wnat to talk with someone who has gone through

I have made many friends from a great website in the UK - through this link http://forums.delphiforums.com/pelvis/messages

There is not enough support out there for us women who suffer this long term.
Luckily I can still walk and it is during my monthly cycle/period that I am basically as bad I was during my pregnancy - I am immobile and can hardly walk due to the hormones. The rest of the time I am about 80% functioning.

If you do suffer from this post birth I have found people on the above board awesome!

If anyone does find a great Osteo/physio that they highly recommend, especially post birth- then please recommend them...most of the time women do nto return to these boards/discussions once they are pain free BUT please return and let us know who helped you.

I understand the pain that this causes, physically and emotionally and the toll it takes on one's family. Feel free to drop me a line or go the the Delphi Forum.

Regards

My mw referred me to a physio who gave me some exercises and things to do before changing position and although the pain didn't go it did help lots. The main thing was to engage the pelvic floor muscles before standing up etc, it sounds random but engaging those muscles causes some other muscle to work as well and it is those that help (sorry can't remember the name of the other muscles and is too complicated to try to explain where they are but they are in the tummy but not the abs)
Author: Maya
Subject: 15262
Posted: 13 March 2008 at 7:39pm

LOL Bee, did the article give it away that I have personal experience with SPD?

I had it so bad with Maya I was on crutches by the end, not so bad with the gremlins but still pretty painful and crippling, and have already had a few twinges this time.

The thing I found helped the most was seeing a womens health physio, she gave me a support belt and a tubi grip to support my bump, and heaps of good tips and exercises to help.

SPD won't cause prem labour, but it is important to factor it into your birth plan as certain birthing/labouring positions can be aggravating to it. Most experts recommend birthing on all fours as the best position with SPD, squatting is a big no no. I birthed all three of my girls semi reclined on my back and that didn't cause any problems.

Also, sleeping with a pillow between your knees can help, and I put a plastic bag on the seat of my car so I could swivel in and out coz I found that one of themost challenging things to do with SPD.

The good news is that it does usually clear up 100% post-delivery. I do have permanent weakness in my pelvic ring as a result of the SPD but it doesn't affect me as long as I look after my lower back.

I think it was around 34 weeks when I got the pubic pain, the first time was when I lent over the bath to clean it and from then onwards found it hard to walk or get in and out of the car etc. You can have physio for it and also support belts and in some cases crutches. I didn't see physio for it but did for the sciatic pain and the exercises and techniques for moving did help with that so hopefully they will help you. You could also pm Ladyluck as she had this really bad with her pregnancy, if memory serves me right she went overdue as well.
I didn't go overdue but him coming early had nothing to do with spd.

It blardy hurts!!! My pelvic region is just so sore...

When I was out at the mall yesterday with a friend, she commented that I needed to call my midwife cos I was walking so painfully and weirdly..

It hurts to: sit, lift one leg at a time, get up, turn over in bed, sneeze, sciatic nerve is still playing up on left side... it just hurts to do anything.

I am really worried that it is going to get worse, I am only 18 weeks!!! Will this bring on labour early... Man I wish I was 24 weeks already...

So, I am asking for people's experiences that they have had with SPD.

BTW I have called the midwife and she is calling the Physio at the hosp to get me looked at. Not too sure how long I have to wait for that tho.
