Its not always done as routine but is a good idea to do it. My midwife with kobe did not do it, we talked about it and she made it sound like it wasnt really necessary so we decided not to then the minute i walked into the hospital in prem labour the doctor new I was way to big and tested me for GD. There had been no other symptoms at all, he measured normal at scans, no odd POAS tests nothing but he was 7lb 4oz 6 weeks prem so had obviously done some major growing since the last scan.

I enjoyed the polycose test.
The drink was yummy and I was sitting next to a really sweet elderly man in the waiting room. He was telling me all about his grandkids and his "young buck" of a neighbour who plays his "rock and roll" music at 3am!!

But it's a really simple test. Just takes a little time.
Make sure you take a snack to eat for right after the test. I was really light headed and woozy by the end of it and I had a 10 minute walk home to do. I never had it either, just the 3 sets of normal bloods. It is super sweet. It does taste a bit like lemonade, but I found it really hard going. Well Ive seen my midwife, and she has given me form to go do the test lol. i didnt mention it to her she said is time for my next lot of bloods and the polycose test. I did the three hour test twice as well. It was so yucky I fainted during the last lot of bloods as the medlab lady was really rough with me. I did the three hour test twice with Maya, once before my 28 week polycose and once after. I did the bloods but I had had a huge breakfast of bircher muesli with yoghurt and fruit just before I went so I failed the test big time! Had to do the second test, which was just awful (sorry, I hated it so much and felt like a pin cushion).

Thing was that my DH is a type 1 diabetic and I tested constantly throughout pregnancy using his testing gear and things were fine. I also had an argument with my specialist about having to do the second one because I knew it was fine - it was just the big breakfast I ate! I didn't have the test. My midwife talked through the risk factors (in terms of being a likely candidate) and said it was up to me, I didn't appear to be at high risk - I said no. The POAS check up things show glucose don't they? Yep, it's routine at about 28 weeks, and they may do it earlier if you're showing signs but the m/w should tell you if there's a risk. Yup, it's pretty much routine. I think its routine. All my friends have had to have the test, whether there was a chance of having it or not.
