With my first baby I felt awkward with others seeing me in hospital clothes so I just wore clothes 24/7! That's because I had a c/s and couldn't stand much so only changed once a day. I felt better with it in the end though cause when the doctors do their rounds in the morning it didn't matter whether I had just woken or not, I was at least decent.

With #3 she was VB (and therefore a bit messier), I went with hospital gowns so I wouldn't have to take any washing home. I wore a maternity bra underneath so I felt somewhat dressed. A t-shirt will probably add the most warmth you'll need - like Emma said, even in winter. You'll only need warm clothes for leaving.

That meant the next day I was back into my pre-pregnancy trackpants but I still had a big loose sack wear my baby had been so I was comfortable wearing a size up from my pre-pregnancy size (my pjs were mediums but I'd normally wear small).

Loose is better than tight and if you get something a couple of sizes bigger than you used to buy with drawstrings you should be pretty safe.
