Thanks everyone - it's great being able to pick your brains! We have one and I find it fab. We store everything underneath so it's always just right there and I don't have to worry about forgetting something. It's also good because DH and I are both tall and have back problems, so we're not hunched over at all. I'm still not able to sit on the floor without pain (stitches, eek) so I would have found it very difficult without it! I have never used one, being short using the bed or floor has never been a problem. I used mine heaps with Alex, and have used it once with Sophie!! I just change her on the floor, which I find easier. The change table we bought is a nice wodden one, and we used it as a book shelf for Alex once he was too big for it. Now it is used as nappy storage. i was given a big wooden one(touchwood brand i think) with tash and i loved it to bits. i used it all the time and it lived in our lounge. when she got to big to be changed on it, we used it as a tv stand. but i lent it to my sil(evil witch) and somehow i dont think i will be getting it back.

We have one from Target Furniture that's a chest of drawers with a removeable change table top (looks like a big tray). I absolutely love it and wouldn't be without it. Emma Rose is almost two and I'm still using it -- and now she knows that when her nappy is dirty, she goes into her room and gets a clean one out of the basket, and then waits patiently by the change table for me to come change her (all right, "patiently" is a lie -- she usually stands there yelling, "Mama! Poopie!" until I get there).

I never used one and was really glad that I never got one- my parents gave me an old trolley (which they used when I was a baby) and I used that for the baby bath when she was really young and find it useful for storing nappies etc now, but i personally wouldn't go and buy one.

 I did all my changing on the floor and never really had a sore back. I am often not the most organised person, so at least if I changing her on the floor if I forgot to get something I could go and get it and leave her on the floor. Also I don't how long you would use it for as once they start moving then you need to move to the floor

I had one with Maya and it was as essential with the gremlins too. It was useful for storage (till they started to crawl and learnt to continuously pull the nappies off as a game), and I still change them on it even now. We did have one disaster where Mercedes rolled off even tho I had a hand on her which made me a lot more vigilant when I use it. We have one as well, was great after the birth cos I had had a c/s and bending was extremely painful. We have a cheapo fold up one as well, I got it off trademe for $20, I still use it now. Saves my back. I love that it can be folded up so that is a space saver. I have one of the fabric fold up ones. It is awesome. While I do most changing on the floor now, itwas fab in the early times (like middle of the night changes) and it is still used for after the bath etc. Very good after a c section. We tend not to use it for storage so if it was tight on space i could close it up when no tin use without being annoying. I wasn't intending on having one but was given one by an aunty who had finished using it so I took it (to not offend her really). I ended up having a c-sect and it has been a life saver. It hurts my back to pick Olivia up from the bed (just a funny angle) and I wouldn't have managed to get on the floor with her.

We are really pushed for space too but we'll probably only use it for 4-5 months or so and then shift to the floor. i never had one with either of the boys...and when we used to visit and people would offer me thiers to use i would be scared to put the babies on it.

I think you have to make sure you get one that is good for your height so def try before you buy... i always changed on the bed or the floor.

As above-great for storage of nappies etc and it absolutely saved my back after giving birth. I couldn't be without mine. I get a really sore lower back, and also had a C-Section so couldn't bend over too well.
My son is 8 months and I still use it everytime he needs changing, except now I have to be careful to strap him in if I turn my back to grab his clothes, because he has a very bad habit of trying to roll off!

Oh and they're good for storage too; we keep all his nappies, flannels, towels and creams on there so its all in one place.

My personal recommendation would be to get one. As Bel said, if you didn't use it, you could always sell it on Trade Me.

I got a change table given to me - I was so excited it was nice and tall (I am over 6ft) and so suited us well. After the birth I had some problems with pain when standing (felt like insides were going to fall out!) and so I had to change Luke to the bed that we have in his room. The pain lasted for 4 weeks and so by then the change table was just taking up valuable space. We have put it in storage now and plan on giving it to DHs cousin for them to try.

I think it is a hard one, you never know if you are going to use it until you have the baby... What are people's experiences with change tables? From the "what you need" thread, it seemed opinion was divided 50:50! If you loved them, or if you didn't, could you say why? How long did you use them for?
