Tough decision to make Alex, hmmmmm get hit in the head with a bl**dy great bat or jump!! Not one that I would like to have to make, also not one you can sit & think about aye?!

I did hairdressing in Australia - where you do a 4year apprenticship (sp) & it was hard enough on an almost normal back, (I only fell off a horse & landed on lower back, & cracked tail bone while rollerblading a few years back) I does put a lot of strain on different muscles & if they anr't used to it

Congratulations on your pregnancy

I've just had an elective C for a breech baby last month and I can tell you they really aren't that bad. The recovery for the first few days is the bad bit and that's really more annoying than anything else because you're hooked up to catheters and drips etc. The thing I was most worried about was the spinal block being administered and I actually didn't even feel it.

Yes I had an elective ceasar due to Rhyley being breeched he wasn't my first baby (3rd actually) but he was my first ceasar. As for the nevereousness its all natural to feel that way whether you had elective or not becoming a mother and 'labour' gets you nervous. big advise I have is get moving as soon as you can - lying in bed too long can make the healing processes longer - now I don't mean jumping out of bed as soon as the spinal wears off -definately rest but listen to your medical team and they will let you know when you will be ready and yup will hurt first time you get up (roll onto side and push up - make sure you ahve a pillow or something pressed into your wound - it sure helps)

hehe I cant do all of that anyway so it's not gonna be much of a change! Man I feel useless :P Back problems started when I was a teen and had to jump out of a 2 storey window to stop myself being hit in the head with a baseball bat :P Landed on my feet and compressed a disc - didnt really hurt, and was fine until I went back to school last year to become a hairdresser. Doctor reckons all the standing and bending and me being plus sized didnt help, and it just started a chain reaction. I'll eventually have to have a spinal fusion - but i'm gonna wait til we've had a couple of kids, as the recovery from that is at least 6 months.

Ouch Alex, was it from an accident (just being nosey, dont answer if you dont want).  OMG what a rude woman, imagine the looks you will get when you are getting about in a wheelchair AND a baby!!  You'll be turning heads everywhere

On the upside at least with a c/sect you will have a epidural and you will be out of pain fo a wee while, the recovery isn't too bad either (for me anyway) a bit restrictive on what you can do & lift etc, no stretchingupwards to put out washing, no lifting anything heavier than bubs, not susposed to drive for apros 6weeks, - just got to give the muscles time to mend & the stiches to come right

i grew up in rangiora!! i live in north beach now with DH and the sprogs.....both mine were c/s...jack was elective at 39wks as he was breech...typical boy, didn't stop and ask for directions! that was at st georges where they do all the elective c/s.

charli was an emergency c/s after only 5hrs labour, she was posterior, head flexed and heartrate all over the show, so i was extremely bummed about that!

but anyhoo.....c/s aren't as bad as they are made out to be. Yeah I was at CWH, I got admitted at 34w6d cos my waters had broke and i had gone into labour that's when I found out he was breech, for some reason my labour stopped so I basically then spent 3 weeks mostly at the hospital, had 3 other false starts but eventually had him via elective on the 11th June at 38weeks gestation, which was great cos it gave me a bit of time to get my head around it, stupid me had assumed I wouldn't have a c/s. I found the staff really really good, I saw pretty much every obs there and they all saw me, all of them were very nice as were the midwifes. I had him on the monday and then transferred to burwood on the thursday (would have been earlier but there were no beds) we stayed in till the saturday cos Spencer had a bit of jaundice and needed to go in the billibed.
The hospital had a great c/s pack that I was able to borrow and read through and I read every book about c/s that I could find so I was fully prepared for what would happen. I'm an information person and feel more in control if I have read all about it.

oh ive already bought a few bits :P And with my back - ive got multiple compressions of the discs in my spine, one is bone on bone now so i'm in constant pain. I'm in a wheelchair if I wanna go to the mall etc - and man people are rude!! Hi & welcome, I also had c/sect 1st was emergency due to not progressing  2nd was baby was too comfortable & didnt want to come out.  All worked out well in the end so long as everyone involved it healthy.  Have you had too much trouble with your back during the pregnancy?

When are you going out shopping for some wee outfits???

We are in Southbridge but my hubby works in Rangiora, we will prob be up there for the 26 or 27 Jan, I'm sure Karl will want to go have a look.

I assume you went to chch womans for that? Are they good there and stuff? I'm waiting for an appointment with a specialist there to discuss my 'options' which made me laugh cuz I dont have options :P I HAVE to have a csection lol. my MW said they'd decide closer to the time what they're gonna do, but yea. Hi there, i'm not far away i'm just down in little old Kaiapoi.
I have a 7 month old who was born by C section cos he was breech. We had some other issues and he was born at 38 weeks, normally for an elective c/s they do them at 39 weeks, especially if there is a reason for not wanting you to go into labour otherwise some women like to wait until labour starts naturally and then have the c/s done so that the date is still a surprise.
