No, no such luck. Good news though is that I got a call from one of the hospital m/w's who got me to come in, checked my BP and hooked me up to the CTG too. Looks like things are starting to happen, and she reckons maximum a few days. M/w is fully stretched and was there on Friday when I went in for monitoring, but she had 1 or 2 other women giving birth at the time, so they kinda took priority.

Just heard back from the hospital, they want me to go to my GP and get my BP and urine checked. They're not even going to see me even though my m/w referred me. Apparently they are incredibly busy. Emz, could you ask your midwife to go along to these referrals with you as an advocate and to make sure they're doing everything required?

Man CWH is really getting a bad name for itself these days. I agree cuppatea who knows why they didn't make it bigger. Hopefully once this baby boom settles down they get a bit better, it must be pretty stressful for everyone there with not enough beds.

nope that's all good, medical practice is just that.. practice.. scans are not all-seeing, placentas do their own dodgy stupid things that cannot always be picked up by tests and 2-dimensional black and white pictures, and alot of the time no one can ever tell you why your waters break early or why your labour doesn't progress.. unfortunately it's not the medical profession it's just nature.

In saying that, had i been in the position i would be seething too, and would want answers. However i also wouldn't want to be shipped all over NZ and would want baby kept inside me as long as healthy and possible. We have had a lady shipped over to aus once as when beds here are full, tends to be wellington waikato and all other places are full too.

BTW your wee boy is looking just gorgeous and looks all fit and healthy now

Yes Mum2Paris, not to sound rude but I was given that lecture at the hospital. I do appreciate that there are bed issues, the women I was sharing with was sent to Dunedin to be induced, but I don't think that should be used as a consideration when deciding what is best for bubs especially when none of the obs I saw could explain why my waters had broken at 35 weeks or why I kept going into labour but not active labour. I also did not trust their scans etc that said he was fine, as they had told another lady from my ante natal class and she was at the hospital the same time as me and had had a 4lb 5oz bub even though she was 38 weeks cos they had said her placenta was working fine but turns out it wasn't, so when they were telling me everything was fine it was a little hard to believe.

I also think that they shouldn't have built CWH the same size as the old hospital because that is just frikking ridiculous.

That sucks seriously, not making excuses at all but often if things look like they might be wrong eg cardiac things, they are hard to pick up so they might think they see something then look further and decide no, maybe not, it all just depends. With the monitoring you though there's no excuse for slackness with that at all.

Also as a side note cuppatea, sometimes a lack of neonatal beds does decide things - ie if things aren't super urgent and can be managed without delivering bubs because sometimes its a case of better out than in if there aren't the beds or nurses to care for a prem baby, cos when they just keep shovelling em in the standard of care is not as great as it could/should be.

Ah Emz I'm so sorry they are messing you around like that and how awful to be told twice that bubs is ill and then not ill. I got stuffed around by them too and the only reason they wouldn't deliver him was cos of a lack of neonatal beds not cos it was the best thing to do. In actual fact they had no explanation whatsoever for what was happening to me. I was gonna write a complaint, but once he was born things went mad and I was far too tired to worry about complaining and now I can't remember the details well enough to lodge a proper complaint. If you are really unhappy I would write down now everything that has happened as it will all get forgotten once bubs arrives.

I know it doesn't feel like it now but this will all seem like a small inconvenience once you are at home with your bubba. (I was told the same but at the time did not believe it, 3 weeks of being in CWH and being stuffed around by every obs there was pretty frikking annoying).

That is really ridiculous about the referal as well. So after everyone reassuring me that CWH is fine over the Xmas break, I have discovered that they are completely incompetent! Why oh why did I think they would be OK and decide against going private?!

Mind you, it's not just CWH, it seems to me that the whole profession dealing with my pregnancy are just out to get me. Twice I have been told our baby has a cardiac condition, only to be told twice (the 2nd one being today) that everything's OK.

And then there's my 'urgent' referral that was sent through on the 12th which I got a letter confirming for the 16th of JANUARY! And when I was admitted last Friday for CTG for bubs, they didn't once check my BP (which they were supposed to do as it needs to be monitored for signs of pre-eclampsia), and didn't today either. My m/w is so angry with them, they're doing a real half-a**ed job and every person has told us a conflicting story.

Sorry for the rant, but geez I can't believe that a place that is looking after such delicate little people is so completely useless at covering the basics of care.
