We had planned Gina too but I found myself wondering if it was what I really wanted in the first few weeks after we found out. Then I had bleeding at around the 10th week and cried my eyes out thinking I was losing her - that's when I realised how much I really loved her
And no, babies don't have to cost the earth - you just need to avoid certain shops

We had tried for 6 months, then I changed jobs so we stopped trying, then we started trying again and it took 5 months and then I freaked out when it happened.
As for the money thing I suggest looking on babycity or babyfactory and they have a list of essential items and a list of stuff that you might want but don't neccessarily need. We wrote a huge list of everything and how much it cost and how much we would need to cover my maternity leave, it helped give us an idea of what we would need to pay out. As for running expense they are pretty cheap just account for formula (even if you intend to breastfeed, it doesn't always work out), and look into what nappies to use cloth or disposable, and as your due date will be in winter account for extra power for keeping bubs room warm extra washing, tumble drying etc.

Oh and once it sinks in you will get excited, especially once you have the first scan.

    Author: kiwikid
Subject: 12275
Posted: 15 November 2007 at 5:42am

... to freak out a little bit when you first find out you are pregnant?? I've been ready for a baby for ages, or so I thought (currently 32yrs), I've been happily reading lots of bits and pieces, enjoying Oh Baby by Kathy Fray based on recommmendations from here, I even had started buying little all-in-one outfits in neutral colours recently.

But now that I actually have a BFP I dont feel as over the moon as I thought I would. All I can think about is how are we going to afford everything, will we really be able to adapt to a new little person, does DH really want to have kids or did he just say yes to make me happy.

I quit my well paying job back in August to work on a new business from home, it hasnt taken off like we thought it would and is costing lots but not bringing in much at all. DH has a very good salary but between living expenses and business expenses we have fast using up the savings accounts. How much do babies realistically cost to 'run' (hee hee)???

Deep Breath!

I guess it has a bit to do with the fact we only decided to not actively avoid getting pregnant last month so in the space of three weeks I now find I'm pregnant, surely that has got to take some getting used to.

I just hate that right now I'm much more freaked out than excited, am I completely weird, did anyone else feel a little bit like this and does it get better???????????
