We didn't let anyone know that I was in labour and rang our parents and best friends within a an hour of Ollie's birth. Everyone else just got text messages.

I have to admit I was really excited that he had finally arrived and wanted to let people know. We're not telling our NZ family until after the event.  They are hubbies family so I told him it was up to him, he doesn't want them at the hospital so is going to wait until we are home......  As for mine they are all in Australia so will text them when we head to hosp and ring them once he/she arrrives. My BF in Aust is going to make all the calls to the rest of our Aussie friends for us.  The ones here hubby can do when he is ready.

I was bored to tears in hospital and couldn't sleep so I was texting people at 9.30pm to tell them she had arrived. I had one of my friends asking me to text her when I am in labour I did say yes but think when it comes to the time I will "forget"

she also wants me to text her when I have had baby but it could be several hours depending on when I have baby as we want to call our parents to let them know and if I have baby at 3am. We don't want to be calling our parents till a more decent hour :).

i rang my best friend (well one of them,the other was with me) and her dad (who knew i had been in labour and was most likely ringing with news about the baby ) just said "oh, shes gone to bed" it was such a letdown, i felt like saying "well go wake her up you jerk! do you realise what ive just been through?and what ive now got in my arms?!!" but instead i rang the only person i knew would be up, which was a friend of mine who was at her sisters 21st (hence why she was up) and she was very excited....and also very drunk, so not quite the same,and THEN i text another friend and she text back saying congratulations and that her bf had just proposed.

Next time we'll tell everyone (family included) AFTER I've left the birthing suite - because my entire family barged into the room.  Sure, she was born by then, but I was still nakey under that sheet, in shock, shaking, bloody, un-showered, un-fed and only just all stitched up.  And in they came with cameras and thinking my sis thinking she was being hilarous by playing with the hospital gears when the midwife wasn't there.

Good on you. I kinda got away with that as I had Andrew at 1am so I didn't think people would be happy being woken up but we did wake our parents up.

We just did the same as mum2paris above. My mum was most put out that we hadn't let her know I was in labour and that we hadn't told her her granddaughter was born until 12 hours after. I explained that we couldn't have phones on in hospital and while we were at the hospital after she was born we had other things to do - eg get stitches and get to know our baby. We came straight home and all went to sleep, and phoned people once she we woke up.

Anyway, mum's reaction bummed me out - so if you do go with not telling people, you might want to prepare for a bit of a backlash, or tell your family what your intentions are.

I had intended to let her know earlier, but once in labour I didn't feel like calling her. i did that too. my best friend insisted she be at the birth and even though i had told her i wasnt comfortable with it she insisted she be there! I called her a few hours after our girl was born and she was really quite upset that she had "missed it".

Janaya was 10 days overdue and on due date the phone started ringing "is it here yet" "is it here yet" In the end i got mum to answer the phone every day for 2 weeks and to say i was asleep!

i think i texted a message on the way home from the hospital and hit "send to all contacts"

yep its entirely up to you when you tell people but i agree, you may find you are so excited you want to tell everyone. My friend said she wasnt going to tell anyone when she went into labour etc... but just couldnt help herself and I know when i had kobe for example he was taken to NICU and hubby went with him so i was sitting there basically on my own and just wanted to tell everyone my baby was here! Good for you Megan - we did the same, when we had paris absolutely no-one even knew i had had a show a few days before, they didn't know i was at the hospital or anything. They got a call at lunchtime to say baby was here. lol, Poor mikes mum, had gone on her lunch break and we couldn't get her on her cell so she had to wait till she got back from lunchbreak   We did it this way so that no-one would be annoying ringing or bugging us during labour. DH was texting people while I was in labour in the hospital! We were on such a high and so excited we wanted to shout it to the world!! Gave us something to do while we waited the 27 hours of labour that I was in and it gave me something else to think about other than the pain I was in!!

I done that lol.. but not on purpose, it sucked because i didnt want to tll anyone before i had her because i thought id want to rest and stare at her.. but she slept for like 5 hours and i couldnt and i was staring at her and right then i wanted to text people because i was so excited and proud.. but couldnt. of course you should do whatever you want to do, and dont let anyone bully you. but you might find that you are on such a high over babys arrival that you want to tell people... and thats ok too

my husband and I will of course phone our parents pretty much as soon as we can but everyone else can wait :) (other than baby's aunts and uncles)
