My Dad tried to use that on me when I went over to visit ... now he smokes outside, Mum is amazed as Dad has NEVER EVER EVER smoked out side for anyone.  The advantage of being Daddies girl and the bearer of the first grandchild I say

DHs grandmother insisted that lighting a candle in the room while she chain smoked would mean the baby wouldnt be harmed....

Hmm strange how people don't see that pregnancy advice would have changed in 20-30 years.

I get sick of people telling me I will feel differently about certain things once baby is here, like I don't know my own mind. my boss gave me a pint of guiness at work drinks the other week!
he said his mother had it all the time with him and tried to get me to drink it.... i just said "well look at how you turned out, im definately not having any of it!"

lol about the guinnes thing, as extended family member of mine was told by her midwife to drink a pint of guinnes a week during her third pregnancy. Unfortunately i have not been given that advice from my midwife!

Bummer!

The thing I've come to realise is that people give you advice all the bloody time but only to make themselves feel knowledgeable. I used to think it was because they must think I was completely incompetent and it used to really p*ss me off! (Well actually it still does lol!)

I guess the plus side is that now you get to use all those snappy comebacks that you thought of after they dished it out during the first pregnancy

that since this is my second pregnancy, people would at least assume I knew what I was doing (not that I'm saying that I know everything, I still learn things everyday) and quit with the unasked for advice!

I was out to lunch with a couple of workmates and one of them told me it was OK to drink Guiness while pregnant! What???! "Oh just a pint every now and then becuase it's high in iron." Hmm yeah I think I'll just stick to iron supplements thanks!
