We use sleeping bags as well, I do have some blankets as well for using in the pram etc. I mostly have cotton cell ones, didn't bother with wool. I also have some fleece ones which I put on his playgym when it is cold to help stop the drafts coming up through the floor. I have one huge thick cotton blanket that I use to take to peoples houses so that I can put him on the floor to have a kick about without worrying about him sicking on their carpet or getting too cold.
Also you can get travel sleeping bags which are really handy then if bubs is asleep in the carseat you can transfer straight to bed.

If your baby learns fast how to unwrap/unswaddle and gets cold hands or scratches at face you might find our peke moe useful. This is why I developed on a concept from a friend as my boy was a houdini at unwrapping and would NOT go back to sleep unless wrapped tightly. This however worked from day one and the feedback I'm getting from others is the same. you also don't need a blanket over them. In winter they can have their pj's underneath and in summer just nappy/singlet etc.

We used sleeping bas with both boys and never had problems with them waking up because they were cold. I'd really recommend them. We have a safety sleep, but only ever used it at my mums when Alex was little, so that he could sleep in a single bed without falling out. Never bothered using it at home.

I agree with Emma, sleeping bags are great! Then you don't have to worry about them kicking off their blankets.

Being summer I wouldn't worry too much about buying lots of blankets. Cotton wraps to keep baby 'swaddled' and maybe one blanket should do you fine.

Like Emma said, safety sleeps are personal choice. We were given one and I hate it! Yet many people love them.

With blankets. I found a couple of woolen aircell ones on trademe and just washed them several times before using them. Safe T Sleeps are a personal choice, we loved ours and I wouldn't be without them but I know a lot of people choose not to use them.

Blanket wise I wouldn't panic too much initially as it will be summer and relatively hot. A woolen aircell would be good as it will breathe but don't get a really heavy one.

We're having our first baby in January and have no idea as to which blankets we need to buy. I've read the wool aircell blankets are good and someone else said just to buy a wool blanket.

What do you use and what should I buy, obviously for both summer and winter.

Also - Do we really need to buy a Safe-T Sleep??
