I had to hint to my sister (who loves organising things like that!) that I wanted one - she decided that I wouldn't want one. We had a great time - perfect for catching up with people you haven't seen for a while...

I had baby showers for all 3 of mine... it was organised by other people and was really just an excuse to have a BBQ and have friends around!
It also did help to make everyone more involved in the pregnancy...and we did a presents not necessary thing on the invites as well.

there are some awesome baby shower ideas out there if you google it! and I say if no-one throws you one but you still want one (its great fun, i've been to a few) then organise one yourself. The games I've seen played involved being blindfolded and sitting in a chair with another blindfolded person standing behind you feeding you baby food - result = a lot of mess! Almost the exact same thing happened to me, a lady wanted to do one for me, and just forgot about it till I nagged her to death about it 2 weeks before J arrived.

I didn't have one with Ollie, which was fine as I didn't really want one. Mainly because people had given us so much stuff already that I didn't want them to feel that had to get us anything - even if I said 'no pressies required' I know people would still feel obliged to bring something. Plus I see my family and friends quite often.

The idea of a 'freezer party' however is really beginning to grow on me ... She chose the date, and I sent out the invitations..... then she never mentioned it again. I left it thinking she was going to surprise me on the day with all the details, but it just NEVER got mentioned.... I am having one with work as its a bit of a tradition but not having one with family/friends as don't really feel comfortable with it. Think sometimes it turns into a present opp rather than a catch up so have said no to my SIL who offered to organise it. I had a baby shower that was organised by 2 friends of mine.It was on a Sat afternoon for a couple of hours and we had a few games, some simple afternoon tea food and yes there were presents - the friends had wanted me to make a list of things I needed/wanted so they could include it with invites but I didn't - I figured anyone who wanted to get me something shouldn't feel they had to!
The best part of having a baby shower was seeing all my friends/family together before I had Kaleb. I'm a first time mmmy-to-be, and I'm having a baby shower. Even though I'm only just over halfway, I will be doing it next month... before most of my friends leave after the uni exams. I'm doing the organising myself, sort of, we are just going to have a supper thing. But one of my friends offered to plan some baby shower games or something, so I guess it's still going to be sort of surprising what will happen!

Gifts will be a bonus of course especially since we are short of money, but the main reason for having the baby shower is to catch up with friends while I still can, and also hopefully make them feel involved in the pregnancy (which is important to me cos I want lots of support once the baby comes)! On the invites I will stress that gifts aren't expected, because for me, it's not about that, it's about spending time with friends celebrating a really cool life event

I think that if you want one, just go ahead and plan one. Doesn't have to be a big deal, just an afternoon tea with a few friends and family. I don't know many people that have had one, but apparently I am. If I had to organise it though, I wouldn't have one, as that's not my place. Okay I must be weird as I organised my own baby shower.. Asked people to bring a plate etc. It was fun and I think everyone who came enjoyed themselves. I was 8 months pregnant when I had mine.

I'm a first time mum and I don't think I will have one. Both our families live 4 hours away and the friends I have here I am not close enough to for them to come to one. I'm not too fussed really. I won't be having one. The main reason is that I've no close family / friends living near me to have one with.
Saying that, I don't think I'd be having one even if they were here.

For all my friends that have had babies I've always brought something either for them or the baby.

Haven't been to many baby showers though.
